This was a really positive and timely eco challenge for me. There were changes that had to be made to my personal care to better facilitate the plumbing issues for my house. There was also a huge change in my eating patterns brought about by the elimination of gluten, dairy, and cashews (I found this one out the hard way). I sold my former racing bicycle in favor of a happy little cruiser bicycle that even has a bell and a basket to get me to the Farmer's Market and other local places. It's been a very positive and intense time of change!

This was a fun adventure, I learned a lot about sustainability or as Kip put it in last nights presentation "thriveability". I loved the outlook that we don't want to just sustain our current environment, we want it to thrive. I will continue my journey into veganism and being more self aware of my carbon footprint. The solar panels get installed on my roof in July. I found a dehydrated laundry detergent that works wonderfully, this will eliminate a lot of plastic waste for my family of 4. We will continue to look for other ways to lessen our carbon footprint and ways to thrive. Thank you for this chance to be educated, to share that knowledge with others, and apply it in a way that will make a difference.

Industry Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

Supermarkets are one of the leading contributors of having negative effects on our climate due to their refrigeration systems, which have high refrigerant charge leakage and high electricity consumption.

    Industry Properly Dispose of Refrigerants
How do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?

I address my feelings of concern about the climate change by trying to make a difference!  I try to do this by making changes in my daily habits; by educating myself; and, by informing and encouraging others!

I will have to say tracking wasted food has made me more aware of what's in my refrigerator, even the items that get pushed to the back. I didn't throw out much food and I believe it was because I was tracking it. I do know that I will continue to keep track of what I have and what should be eaten "now" by preparing meals that call for food that could possibly go to waste.

Thanks for reading my post. Let's end this will a talk about portions. Well this is not a favorite topic but surely the results show on the weight scale. I can easily eat small portion or recommend sizing of food with things I'm not crazy about. I consider my self a "Foodie". I'll try anything not moving and considered normal food once. The hard part is dessert I call a deadly sin. I once tried the ice cream single serving (weight watches portion) well I enjoy 4 in one setting which was every favor! I tried to eat off lunch plates at dinner that works well. I tried to cut all my treats in portions like eating chips from a 16 oz cups and a handful of nuts. My downfall is Roasted Coconut Lemon Custard Cake. Ok I failed this portion thing too . Pray for me.

I am enjoying growing my own garden! I had no idea how fast radishes grew. Should be able to harvest in just a few more weeks. I will have lettuce, cucumbers and strawberries all summer!!

    Transportation Stay on the Ground
What was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?

While I support highspeed rail and alternatives for transportation I wonder if it will ever get off the ground (no pun intended) to the point where it can really make a difference.
During the pandemic our travel was curtailed 100%. It was refreshing during the morning and throughout the day NOT to hear traffic, including trucks, and airplanes (we live by an airport).

    Land Sinks Explore My Area
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

I think by spending time outdoors and actually in an environment you're not familiar with can give you a newfound appreciation for the land/environment. We back up to a small lake and see the wildlife that depends on the vegetation and lake. It's really amazing some of the things we see during the day and raises the question of what we miss after dark.
