This was a really positive and timely eco challenge for me. There were changes that had to be made to my personal care to better facilitate the plumbing issues for my house. There was also a huge change in my eating patterns brought about by the elimination of gluten, dairy, and cashews (I found this one out the hard way). I sold my former racing bicycle in favor of a happy little cruiser bicycle that even has a bell and a basket to get me to the Farmer's Market and other local places. It's been a very positive and intense time of change!

A wonderful challenge...I'm disappointed I missed the first week or so but it was awesome and educational all the same!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Climate Resilience Support Businesses Owned by Women, BIPOC, or Immigrants
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. What have you done in the past to support women-owned businesses? How can you better support communities by supporting women?

I am so happy researching and purchasing from BIPOC/Immigrant/Woman owned businesses. There are amazing local options for food and SO MANY choices online! This has been a great exercise for me :o)

I haven't been doing as many go by bike miles but that is because I really haven't been going anywhere. Which is still reducing my footprint as I see it ;o)

How does using human-powered transportation make you feel compared to using other methods of transportation?

I made a big switch during this challenge. I finally sold my ultra fancy fast road bike and bought something more age and lifestyle appropriate. I now have a pretty little lime green cruiser with a basket on the front and a happy bell. I call it my farmers market bike. :o)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

Consuming dairy and gluten have recently been removed from my diet under a doctors order. Removing meat on a regular basis hasn't posed much of an issue for me given those changes. Hummus, fruits, and veggies have become my primary source of nutrition with the occasional dairy/bread substitutes.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions Support Local Food Systems
Dependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?

In addition to shopping at Whole Foods, I have made sure to select premade products from their store that are from local vendors. Not only have I had a chance to learn about new opportunities but I am purchasing from a socially conscious store. Once the local farmers market opens in May I will have the opportunity to source all my fruits and veggies from local farmers.

We've conclusively proven over the last year plus that our ability to meet and produce virtually is equal to or greater than it was in person. I will continue to advocate for remote work solutions.
