Reduce Animal Products
Plant-Rich Diets
I will enjoy 1 meatless or vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Action Track: Climate Resilience
Support Businesses Owned by Women, BIPOC, or Immigrants
Sustainable Intensification for Smallholders
I will spend 45 minutes researching businesses owned by women, immigrants, and Black, Indigenous, and people of color that I can support when shopping.
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions
Support Local Food Systems
Plant-Rich Diets
I will source 20 percent of my food from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

sarah bonam 5/03/2021 7:46 AMThis was a really positive and timely eco challenge for me. There were changes that had to be made to my personal care to better facilitate the plumbing issues for my house. There was also a huge change in my eating patterns brought about by the elimination of gluten, dairy, and cashews (I found this one out the hard way). I sold my former racing bicycle in favor of a happy little cruiser bicycle that even has a bell and a basket to get me to the Farmer's Market and other local places. It's been a very positive and intense time of change! -
sarah bonam 4/30/2021 5:29 AMA wonderful challenge...I'm disappointed I missed the first week or so but it was awesome and educational all the same! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Support Businesses Owned by Women, BIPOC, or ImmigrantsGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. What have you done in the past to support women-owned businesses? How can you better support communities by supporting women?
sarah bonam 4/29/2021 5:06 AMI am so happy researching and purchasing from BIPOC/Immigrant/Woman owned businesses. There are amazing local options for food and SO MANY choices online! This has been a great exercise for me :o) -
sarah bonam 4/29/2021 5:04 AMI am so happy with my locally sourced meals and food purchases from BIPOC/Immigrant/Woman owned businesses!!! And the Farmer's Market opens tomorrow for more locally sourced goodness! -
sarah bonam 4/28/2021 8:17 AMI haven't been doing as many go by bike miles but that is because I really haven't been going anywhere. Which is still reducing my footprint as I see it ;o) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go by BikeHow does using human-powered transportation make you feel compared to using other methods of transportation?
sarah bonam 4/26/2021 4:10 AMI made a big switch during this challenge. I finally sold my ultra fancy fast road bike and bought something more age and lifestyle appropriate. I now have a pretty little lime green cruiser with a basket on the front and a happy bell. I call it my farmers market bike. :o) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
sarah bonam 4/20/2021 9:52 AMConsuming dairy and gluten have recently been removed from my diet under a doctors order. Removing meat on a regular basis hasn't posed much of an issue for me given those changes. Hummus, fruits, and veggies have become my primary source of nutrition with the occasional dairy/bread substitutes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating Solutions Support Local Food SystemsDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
sarah bonam 4/20/2021 9:47 AMIn addition to shopping at Whole Foods, I have made sure to select premade products from their store that are from local vendors. Not only have I had a chance to learn about new opportunities but I am purchasing from a socially conscious store. Once the local farmers market opens in May I will have the opportunity to source all my fruits and veggies from local farmers. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating Solutions Conduct Virtual MeetingsHow can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?
sarah bonam 4/20/2021 9:44 AMWe've conclusively proven over the last year plus that our ability to meet and produce virtually is equal to or greater than it was in person. I will continue to advocate for remote work solutions.
