Electricity Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

To me, a sustainable community looks like an accessible community for all--access to fresh food, quality education, parks and recreational activities--ideally all that can be reached by foot. This video was extremely interesting--I have never heard of these anaerobic digesters before but it is amazing how they can take on of the most potent GHG and turn it into energy, on-site to offset energy consumption!! Innovative energy solutions like this would be part of the plan as well.

Today is the last day of the challenge!!! If you forgot to check in a couple of days, don't worry. You can go back and retroactively check-in (for fewer points) up to SEVEN days! Remember next Friday at 10:00 we will have a virtual celebration and announce the winners! :)

I have really enjoyed this challenge and will miss checking in everyday and seeing all my teammates have accomplished.   My pledge is to continue my actions to help make this planet a better place for my grandchildren.

    Welcome to Transportation Week!

It is the final week of the Eco-Challenge so let’s finish strong!

The weather is going to be beautiful this week, so it is an excellent week to lower your transportation carbon footprint by walking or biking to your destination!

The Bike St. Louis Website has maps that show street routes for bicycling. You can find it here as well as a bunch of other information: https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/departments/street/streets-sidewalks-traffic/bicycling/bike-st-louis-map.cfm

Don’t forget about the celebration coffee break on May 7, at 10 a.m.!

Thank you for your dedication to making the world a more sustainable place!

It has been an interesting month with the plant goals.  Gardeners by definition have to be optimists but it is a struggle with the weather this year.  I have started a lot of food seedlings based on the last frost date.  It has meant putting them in pots to go in and out of the house with late hard frosts.  Now the ground needs to warm up for seedlings to prosper.

I learned so much last year on my 1st echochallenge and have continuing learning on this one.  I have become a better citizen and hope to help my family and friends do the same.  I will miss this, but hope to continue with my actions.

Transportation Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

Looking forward to buying one. I've noticed more plug in spots at grocery stores etc.

I worked at the community garden, the Garden of Eden. They raise vegetables for the local food pantry. Really enjoyed working outdoors with members of the Jewish and Chinese community. It helps knowing our hard work will help feed hungry people.

    Transportation Purchase a Carbon Offset
A round-trip flight from New York City to Los Angeles emits just over 1.5 tons of CO2—per person. That’s a lot of carbon! What can you do to reduce the number of flights you take per year?

Take the train or a bus. Drive a hybrid or electric car if I can.

Action Track: Accelerating Solutions Support Local Food Systems
Dependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?

I love buying my milk from a local farmer in a glass jar - no waste!  Fresh milk!  Supporting a local farmer!  It just doesn't get better than that.  If only I had a Local Harvest store closer to me, I would shop there more often.  At least it is farmers' market season!
