ONE-TIME ACTION

Food, Agriculture, and Land Use

Support Local Food Systems

Plant-Rich Diets

I will source 30 percent of my food from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.

DAILY ACTIONS

Industry

Reduce Single-Use Disposables

Bioplastics

Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and BIPOC-majority neighborhoods. I will avoid buying and using 4 single-use plastics and instead replace them with durable options.

COMPLETED 7
DAILY ACTIONS

Industry

Recycle Everything I Can

Recycling

Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.

DAILY ACTIONS

Industry

Practice the 5 R's

Recycling

I will Practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.

Explore My Area

Sometimes protecting nature requires feeling connected to nature. I will invest 120 minutes in exploring and appreciating a natural area in my region, whether a forest, wetland, coastal area, or somewhere else.

Transportation

Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle

Electric Cars, Hybrid Cars

I will spend at least 60 minutes researching and weighing my options to see if a hybrid or electric vehicle makes sense for my lifestyle.

    Welcome to Transportation Week!

It is the final week of the Eco-Challenge so let’s finish strong!

The weather is going to be beautiful this week, so it is an excellent week to lower your transportation carbon footprint by walking or biking to your destination!

The Bike St. Louis Website has maps that show street routes for bicycling. You can find it here as well as a bunch of other information: https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/departments/street/streets-sidewalks-traffic/bicycling/bike-st-louis-map.cfm

Don’t forget about the celebration coffee break on May 7, at 10 a.m.!

Thank you for your dedication to making the world a more sustainable place!

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

I think what motivated me the most to consider switching is helping advocate for a cleaner and better environment!

Hello Everyone! Welcome to Industry week!

Remember to follow those 5 R’s of waste reduction this week. Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, and Recycle!

Here is an article on the 5 R’s:

One huge contributor to landfill mass is waste that could have been composted. St. Louis has several composting programs one being https://compost.perennial.city/

I found this fantastic local shop in Maplewood called Maven Bath & Candle Co. that sells bar shampoo and conditioner as well as other soaps to reduce my single use plastic consumption.

This is a reminder to check your “spam” or “promotion” sections of your emails to see the Monday team email! Also, remember to keep inviting others, we are still early in the challenge and EVERYONE is welcome!

Thanks for your dedication to making our world a more sustainable place!!
