Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions Support Local Food Systems
Dependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?

    Kathy Dolson 4/29/2021 10:01 AM
I love buying my milk from a local farmer in a glass jar - no waste!  Fresh milk!  Supporting a local farmer!  It just doesn't get better than that.  If only I had a Local Harvest store closer to me, I would shop there more often.  At least it is farmers' market season!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Use Muscle Power
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

    Kathy Dolson's avatar
    Kathy Dolson 4/27/2021 1:40 PM
I've been riding my bike when I go to the library or post office, which is way better than driving. I always see more of what's happening in my neighborhood.  I love seeing my neighbors!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Climate Resilience Plant Trees
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

    Kathy Dolson's avatar
    Kathy Dolson 4/26/2021 11:30 AM
Being outside to plant a tree is getting fresh air and connecting with nature.  Having more trees just feels good.  We put in a bald cypress sapling from a neighbor!

    Kathy Dolson 4/24/2021 1:38 PM
I joined the challenge because even though I already do about as much as I can, I can always strive to do more.  I chose some actions (like fix a leaky faucet) to try to get myself to actually do it, and others to educate myself about new issues.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Kathy Dolson's avatar
    Kathy Dolson 4/24/2021 1:35 PM
I believe people in richer countries eat more meat because it is pushed on us by the meat industry.   We are made to believe meat (aka, protein) is an important part of our diet, but not educated about other options for protein.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions Communicate With My Elected Officials
What inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?

    Kathy Dolson's avatar
    Kathy Dolson 4/24/2021 1:33 PM
I act on sustainable energy and other energy issues because without moving to renewable energy, we can never make any progress toward reducing carbon emissions.  We simply must taper off our use of fossil fuels.

    Land Sinks Explore My Area
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

    Kathy Dolson 4/20/2021 9:15 AM
I had no idea THIS existed only 7 miles from my house!  I discovered it at our O'Fallon Park cleanup on Sunday and went back yesterday just to watch.  It was fascinating!  And since it's not a great photo - it is hundreds of egrets nesting!  Right here in St. Louis!

It's taken me a while to finally join this ecochallenge!  There is still 1/2 the month left!
