    YES! Besides sequestering carbon, research is currently suggesting that biochar could reduce methane produced by livestock and increase tree survival rates. Planting millions of trees isn't helpful if the survival rate of those trees don't improve.

    Does anybody else buy laundry detergent in pouches to refill those thick plastic jugs the detergent comes in? It saves a bit of plastic, and it saves money. Another laundry soap alternative I use is laundry sheets, which is soap without liquid.

    In hopes of reducing my waste, I purchased reusable produce bags instead using the plastic ones provided by the grocery stores.

    A sustainable community is one that leaves the land and air better for future generations. The reduction of pollutants by changing the way we think about energy and the how we create the necessities of life.

    We decided to drive to Montana instead of flying. It took longer to get there, but it gave us more flexibility in the long run. Plus, we had high quality time to spend together just talking and sharing our lives.

    Maybe it’s an unconscious affiliation with abundance? Not sure. When visiting Seoul in 2019 I noticed how expensive beef is (maybe $20-25 for a smallish steak) and fish somewhat less. Chicken was not as ubiquitous as in the US and there’s more tofu and veggies in cuisine. So meat is a luxury.

    Make soup stock! Use the trimmed ends from chopped veggies like scallions, mushrooms, anything. Bring to boil, cover and simmer for maybe 30min. The longer the better but I’m usually in a hurry. The use for soup right away or freeze for later use.
