  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Stay on the Ground
What was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?

    Angela De Nigro's avatar

I drove 40 miles away and explored a downtown area by foot, bike and a little by car.  It was fun and beautiful.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Explore Other Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Solutions
What did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?

    Angela De Nigro's avatar
Angela De Nigro 4/27/2021 8:27 AM
24% of greenhouse gasses come from agriculture! That's a lot and add that to the amount of food that is wasted from those crops- sad.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Angela De Nigro's avatar
Angela De Nigro 4/27/2021 8:20 AM
To have a sustainable community- smal  level, I expect some land for growing food and raising chickens would be needed. A water source with filtration.
I think it is costly for small level and even more costl to change large communities to be sustainable.  Very important but the majority of the population needs to be on board. Getting people to think about sustainability and long-term- past their own life, seems daunting to me.

      Karem Montemayor 4/28/2021 8:26 AM
Agreed. This is a daunting task and the buy in is one of the hardest parts. Incentivizing this lifestyle is key, because unfortunately, future generations are not always considered.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Angela De Nigro's avatar
Angela De Nigro 4/19/2021 8:44 AM
I notice the drange could be much better on wet days or whwn yards are  being watered. It is dirty in my neighborhood and I carry a bag to pick up trash.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Support a Community Garden
What are the multiple benefits of community gardens, including carbon sequestration? Why do these benefits matter to you?

    Angela De Nigro's avatar
Angela De Nigro 4/19/2021 8:42 AM
I appreciate community gardens as they are a local space to enjoy the dirt, feel a particular a community and see the growth of plants- something that all people not may have access to without yards or local community gardens.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Angela De Nigro's avatar
Angela De Nigro 4/19/2021 8:38 AM
Wow, so much usable food is wasted!!! I fall prey to the dates but I will make en effort to be less wasteful based on dates
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Support Businesses Owned by Women, BIPOC, or Immigrants
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. What have you done in the past to support women-owned businesses? How can you better support communities by supporting women?

    Angela De Nigro's avatar
Angela De Nigro 4/13/2021 1:58 PM
I don't only buy from women owned. I try to buy a quality that I can afford and be proud of. It feels good to me when who I support is a minority.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Angela De Nigro's avatar
Angela De Nigro 4/09/2021 12:06 PM
I'm surprised to know there is so much usable carbon in biomass.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Building With Carbon Storing Waste Products
How feasible do you think it is for society to build with agricultural waste products?

    Angela De Nigro's avatar
Angela De Nigro 4/09/2021 12:02 PM
Feasibility and willingness are factors that I feel are on opposite sides. It seems like a good idea to build with waste product such as rice hulls as it will be discarded/burned/ decomposed otherwise. I hope builders/buyers find it good to use in chemical free building products.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Learn about Biochar
Can biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?

    Angela De Nigro's avatar
Angela De Nigro 4/07/2021 2:06 PM
Biochar seems to add nutrients to soil that transfers to the food grown in it. That's more than simply sequestering carbon.
