  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

It is linked to income. We don't need to rely on meat for protein though....... plant based protein is good for us and the planet :). It is easier for richer countries to choose plant based protein
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

Mental distress & domestic abuse are one of the most pressing issues for women the community in my area is facing. I have done some research the charities working on women issues in the Nottinghamshire area and I found the following:

    Nottingham Women's Centre (nottinghamwomenscentre.com)

Domestic Abuse & Violence Helpline, Support, Charity in Nottingham | Juno - Juno Women's Aid Nottingham & Nottinghamshire (junowomensaid.org.uk)

Help for women in Broxtowe experiencing domestic abuse (broxtowewomensproject.org.uk)

Welcome to NMWN | NMWN (nottinghammuslimwomensnetwork.co.uk)

    And many more...

I've learnt so much through this eco-challenge.
Thanks to the sustainability BRG for getting us on board. I've had a lot of fun doing the daily actions and educating myself through the one-time actions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

My diet is plant-focused at the moment having a vegetarian partner. I found out trough some digging (excluding the usual culprit eg non-sustainably sourced palm oil) that our coffee consumption and our love for all things chocolate was contributing to deforestation too. I will make sure to look for rainforest alliance logo for all coffee/chocolate I purchase and look out for product using shade-grown cocoa and shade-grown coffee.

Action Track: Accelerating Solutions Research and Advocate for High-Speed Rail
What are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?

Cost & time are big factors. COVID also means that journeys we would have done by train… we would now prefer to use our car. Choosing more local destinations would help us be more climate friendly in the current situation.
