Looks like the Aldi stores are the only one's around San Diego that have HFC free refrigerants in their fridges & freezers. I wonder where the trade off is if it's worth driving the extra distance to get to and HFC free grocery store. BUT on another note there is a cool page on the site showing how you can become a "Citizen investigator" to snap photos of the refrigerant labels inside of fridges and send it to the website so they can start tracking more stores. Just you wait - I'm going be "that person" snapping photos of the grocery store refrigerator!!

Just purchased offsets for my flight back to San Diego on this coming Sunday. For good measure, I doubled it to include the offset for my flight up here last March.

Looked for used electric scooter options (vespa-style scooter, not bird- or mobility-style). I'd rather buy used than new to increase longevity of an already existing vehicle. My intent would be primarily to use this for commute to work and trips around town when I don't need to go on the highway, but am just too lazy to ride my bicycle. (also, it's quieter than a motorcycle for bringing a cat along!)

Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. How would you rather use this money?

I've learned that I'm pretty good about food waste. I tend to right-size my food portions, and most of my food waste comes from the non-edible food discard (shells, peels, etc.). I think the next goal I have is to find a way to start a small compost in my condo.

Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

This one tends to be pretty easy for me because I'm a creature of habit and I love my lunch smoothies. Fruit and spinach for a meal make it simple to eat vegan. However, I'd like to try and push to also eat more vegan meals for dinner, that's where I tend to eat more chicken, turkey, or eggs.

Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

Eating mindfully seems like such a simple thing and yet it's one of the tasks that I seem to have the most difficulty with. I think part of the problem is habit, and breaking a habit can be difficult. I think the other difficulty is sometimes feeling the need to work through lunch, or want to be more 'mindless' at the end of the day during dinner.

It is incredible the amount of biodiversity that exists here in San Diego. Balboa park, if the San Diego Zoo is included, contains over 1,000,000 different types of plants. It's amazing to look around and see so many different plants that may not exist anywhere else in the US. I feel lucky to live in a place that provides a hospitable environment for so many plants, and I owe my appreciation of plant ecology to my late Grandfather.

its hard to comprehend that such a basic need can STILL be affecting so many young women in schools in North America.  Sponsoring one girl for one year is the least each of us can do

Fabulous timing for this action - HUB, a non-profit in BC who advocate for active transit, sent out a mailshot with an auto-complete tool to send a note to all my local representatives.  Messaged 7 members of local government in under 2 mins!  Anyone else in BC want to do the same?  here's the link:  https://bikehub.ca/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=31

Gotta say, the cravings for coffee are REAL! I'm not sure if it's a habitual thing, having been part of the daily routine for so long, or if it's the dependence on caffeine. I also need to set aside some time to work on some of my one-time challenges! Would love to get them all checked off in the next few weeks.
