  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Buildings Learn about the Legacy of Redlining
How does city planning and design relate to equity and climate change?

    Emily Ilic's avatar
    Emily Ilic 4/26/2021 2:06 PM
Where parks, factories, grocery stores, etc. are located has a major impact (positive or negative) on the community these are located in.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Plan to Insulate
What are some of the benefits of making your home more energy efficient?

    Emily Ilic's avatar
    Emily Ilic 4/26/2021 2:04 PM
It's cost effective in the long run, and benefits the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Reduce Single-Use Disposables
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Emily Ilic's avatar
    Emily Ilic 4/21/2021 8:14 AM
I did used to use plastic bags quite a bit, but with the push to paper bags at the stores, and the fees for the bags, I've transitioned to using reusable bags and packing my own groceries.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Improve a Bus Stop
How can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?

    Emily Ilic's avatar
    Emily Ilic 4/20/2021 2:28 PM
I think the best way to advocate for these systems is to use them.  If you have a train/bus system that no one uses, it doesn't help the environment at all and is a waste of space.  Using these systems consistently has an impact.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. How would you rather use this money?

    Emily Ilic's avatar
    Emily Ilic 4/20/2021 6:28 AM
As a family of 4, the idea of throwing out $1500 (240 lbs!!) worth of food a year sounds so crazy.  I'd rather use that money towards a vacation...or tuition.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Emily Ilic's avatar
    Emily Ilic 4/16/2021 12:24 PM
I think another benefit is that you have less of a chance of overeating as well, so there could be health benefits.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Use Muscle Power
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

    Emily Ilic's avatar
    Emily Ilic 4/16/2021 6:26 AM
I actually hate driving and this city is so walkable, so when I can I try to walk or take the train if I need to go anywhere.  Walking is a great break to enjoy the weather and get some movement in my day.

      Maddi Loshaw 4/19/2021 11:22 AM
Love this! I've lived in the city without a car for 6 years and it was 100% possible to walk/bike/take transit almost everywhere.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Emily Ilic's avatar
    Emily Ilic 4/16/2021 6:23 AM
Absolutely...knowing more about the dates allows you to know when you should actually throw out food items.
