I popped to the beach this morning - I wondered why we aren't doing more to harness the energy of the waves?! Have no idea what this would be called but that's something to research tonight! I know they use hydro-electricity from fast flowing rivers etc but not sure about seas. Anyone know? Thanks

How did you persuade other members of your household?

I always turn off all the switches to every I can, my TV really annoys me as the Samsung TV has a red light which makes it look like its always on standby. I always turn it off at the mains and have to remind my housemate to do it too!

I'm good at turning the lights off but my partner is better at turning the switches off so this works well in the house.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn More about Regenerative Agriculture
Clean air, clean water and healthy food are just three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. What are some other reasons? How could/does regenerative agriculture positively impact you and your community?

I have an allotment and always interested in how I can grow more sustainably and organically. My latest research is how to improve my soil health via composting, grass clippings and organic matter. This will hopefully help increase my crop yield and I will spend less on purchasing food, which has more food miles and pesticide use to keep it 'fresh'.

Thanks Andrew! I'll add that to my list of things to read. I have been watching videos on youtube - Charles Dowding mentioned no dig and I will have to try it next year as already rotavated all of my plot.  I also watch Huw Richards for allotment and growing tips and various Permaculture videos. It is a dream of mine to grow a food forest one day!

We've just created a veg plot in our garden using No-Dig techniques
Digging and turning over the soil exposes a very delicate ecosystem to the air which dries it out, and to the ultraviolet rays of the sun, which sterilize the soil – killing the soil organisms. The soil loses a lot of its nutrients, such as carbon and nitrogen. It also loses a lot of its organic matter, and as a consequence, does not retain water as well.

Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

    Sophie Hui's avatar
    Sophie Hui 4/07/2021 7:22 AM
Mindful eating makes me feel very grateful and conscious about all the things that enabled me to have this food on my plate. The sun, water, soil, farmer, distribution etc. All the goodness and nutrients going into me! It makes me feel grateful and I enjoy and savor every morsel.
