Truthfully, I mostly chose actions that are already habitual (a daily meatless meal, no wasting food).Smaller servings of food helped me flatten the rising weight gain trend and has motivated me to make stringer commitment to getting back to a healthier weight. Perhaps because I have been paying more attention to environmental happenings around me, I noticed that the Farmer's Market is inviting people to bring in compostable food waste collection point. So I look forward to a greener disposal of egg shells, tea bags, apple cores, and dead flowers.

For me, I find changing my diet to be more local and centered on what I grow to be fun and more healthy.

So glad to be a part of this experience for Earth Month. Our vegetable garden is growing well, and we are planning to change our grass yard into a native pollinator garden within the next month.  We have 2 bluebird houses and are glad to have no electricity bill as we have solar panels now.  We can still lower our footprint and will keep trying.

One of my favorite nature memories of all time is snorkeling off St. John on our honeymoon.  It was my first time snorkeling and I was blown away by the brilliant colors and varieties of fish and other sea life.  Seeing a sea turtle up close was magical.  I am heartbroken about the dying of reefs all over the world due to climate change.

So far this month our solar panels have produced 681.1 kWh of electricity and we have consumed 0 so all seems exported that is equivalent to saving 12 trees or running a refrigerator for 5 months.

The zero waste and daily meatless meal challenges I thought would be pretty easy, because both are part of my usual MO. I don't do most of the cooking, except for breakfast, so I figured any time dinner and supper both had meat, I'd skip having bacon for breakfast.  Usually supper is a salad and sandwich, also easily meatless..but sometimes instead if a sandwich, I have a leftover serving of yesterdays dinner. There have been a lot of leftover servings because of the Smaller Helpings part of the challenge. So this week on the day  when I was in charge of the days meals, I planned for meatless dinner and said to myself "Bacon for breakfast!" And Gracious !! It was all gone green and mouldy. Well, half of it was, anyway. I ended up pitching out 6 slices of bacon.

I read this morning that 51% of survey respondents in the US would be willing to buy an electric vehicle, up from 34% just a year ago (Oliver Wyman Forum as published in the Wall Street Journal 4/24/21).  Impressive gains, but still the lowest figure among the other countries listed, including China (92%), Italy (78%) and the UK (54%).

I was very encouraged by President Biden's bold promise to cut emissions by at least 50% from 2005 levels by 2030.  Nice to have presidential leadership on climate again.
