  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

For me there is a dissociation around where our food comes from.  In rich countries, we have lots of choice in supermarkets with no preparation of the meat and no connection to the sacrifice made by the animal.  With mass farming, meat can be cheap and eaten in abundance.

Totally agree Laura. The dissociation is what makes us almost immune to the suffering of the animal. How could we make this visible?
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

It's good to slowing down my eating which allows time to listen to my body and eat what my body needs.  I often have 2nds or 3rds or eat a little more later on. It's a good social opportunity as well for the family to gather every day, we don't want to rush that! I try to encourage my kids to serve themselves or say how much food thay want on their plate and eat what they can without too much pressure to finish every scrap.  Mealtimes shouldn't be a battleground. I prefer to keep over any leftovers for lunch or have a 'leftovers night' rather than throw food away from plates.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

I can appreciate the flavours of the food more, chew and digest more effectively.  It's an opportunity to step away from the laptop, give my eyes a break and have a posture reset and a stretch also

I agree Laura. Your mind knows when your body is full because it's paying better attention.
