How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

Nothing makes me happier than loading my car with my partner and our old bulldog and exploring what Cali has to offer! We headed to our favorite spot up in Auburn, CA over the weekend and we all needed that sunshine.

I love California because the way trees survives confuses me. No rain, but the most beautiful variety of trees? Okay Universe, I will do my part to protect you.

Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

Last night we were able to disconnect from our hectic lives and enjoy each other's company during dinner.

It's amazing how much your partner can make you laugh when you aren't stuck on your phone or binge watching Solar Opposites. Obviously, huge bonus for having the awareness of actually being full and just not finishing the food in front of you because it is there.

What could you do differently to waste less?

    Sidney Snyder's avatar
    Sidney Snyder 4/07/2021 8:30 AM
Throwing cans in our trash can has been my partner's and I's worst habit to break. Instead of relying on paper bags and cardboard boxes to hold our recyclables, we finally committed to a recycling bin!

My apartment complex made it easy to sign up for their recycling programs, and now we will even have a monthly e-waste pick up if needed!

What do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?

This is a project I have been needing to work on forever! US Bank is seriously the worst with paper mail and it took me a 20 minute call with their Customer Service yesterday, but I got it done.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Purchase a Carbon Offset
A round-trip flight from New York City to Los Angeles emits just over 1.5 tons of CO2—per person. That’s a lot of carbon! What can you do to reduce the number of flights you take per year?

    Sidney Snyder's avatar
    Sidney Snyder 4/05/2021 1:29 PM
To be honest, I am not much of an air traveler. Between pricing and my need to pack every single top that I own, road trips have always been the appeal. However, I am going to see family in May and the 6 day total drive just is not feasible at this time. So flying 4k miles and purchased both my partner's and I's carbon offset.

Cheers to learning of these options and creating a more eco-friendly world!

I took the leap and started a little garden this weekend! Starting off small with Basil and Oregano.

My family has referred to me as Black Thumb for years due to all of my plants in our family garden being the first to die, so I am excited to prove them wrong. My fiancé is monitoring the situation closely though since I may have committed involuntary manslaughter to a cactus last year.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Find a Local Climate-Friendly Supermarket
How close is the nearest climate-friendly supermarket to your home? How could you encourage local supermarket to reduce or phase out their use of HFC refrigerants?

    Sidney Snyder's avatar
    Sidney Snyder 4/01/2021 12:14 PM
This is something that I never even thought about and find incredibly interesting!

Sadly, the Sacramento only has one grocery store that is  "Some low-GWP refrigerants used" which is the Whole Foods off of Arden Way for my locals.

A great way to encourage local supermarkets is by researching local groups that push these actions and providing them support, contacting City Council members, and signing petition. This is a great reminder that the population does have influence on these actions and with teamwork, we can push for a more eco-friendly community.

I had a similar situation with the Portland area. Only 1 grocery store completely free of HFC. And 2 coming close.

Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Smart Seafood Choices
Many states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?

    Sidney Snyder's avatar
    Sidney Snyder 4/01/2021 11:21 AM
As someone who is from the Midwest, and has not had the luxury of fresh seafood before,  this site is a great resource to assist in the understanding of how these diet choices effect more than just your body, but the world. Moving forward, I will use this resource app to help my family make educated decisions regarding these advisories.
