REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildingsWhat are other easy and low-cost ways to reduce your water usage at home?
Crischelle Pana 4/20/2021 12:17 AMCheck toilets, pipes and faucets for leaks, use a cup while brushing your teeth, install water-saving shower-heads or resistors, do full loads when doing laundry, take shorter showers, consider buying high-efficiency washing machines -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate ResilienceHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Crischelle Pana 4/20/2021 12:04 AMI've never heard of silvopasture before!
I think the biggest advantage of silvopasture is that it reaps benefits from the main components simultaneously! I mean while it helps toward forest restoration and reduction of carbon emissions, it also, at the same time, provides benefits to the livestock, like shelter, forage quality, etc. increasing better livestock growth! -

Crischelle Pana 4/16/2021 2:30 AMHere's something interesting I found - a geothermal map; a map created to help identify the best locations of geothermal energy available in Ireland.
Ireland announced last year €1m funding for innovative research projects targeting geothermal energy generation across the country.
Resources I've found:

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?
Crischelle Pana 4/15/2021 3:57 PMI usually cry to myself every now and then thinking about the future of the world in relation to climate change and how it's unfortunately not being given the much needed priority it needs from the leaders of today. A usual occurrence at this point.
But I try to educate myself and the people around me to help as much as we can.
Expect-the-worst-but-hope-for-the-best mentality is what I'm donning right now to be honest. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryConcrete is a good example of a material that most of us encounter every day, but its carbon footprint may not be obvious. What other everyday materials might have a large carbon footprint? How can you find out more?
Crischelle Pana 4/15/2021 3:50 PMFood apparently accounts for 10-30% of a household's carbon footprint. Or using a gadget, such as a phone, for two minutes can produce up to 47kg of CO2 per year!
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
Crischelle Pana 4/15/2021 3:29 PMThat the old refrigerants, CFCs and HCFCs, were part of the causes of ozone layer depletion but was mainly replaced by HFCs which apparently have about 1000 to 9000 times greater capacity to warm the atmosphere than carbon dioxide. Thankfully, the world has agreed to phase out HFCs as well and move on to natural refrigerants.
Unfortunately, supermarkets with their fridges are one of the main contributors of HFC production. It is good to know though that most supermarkets are now taking actions to rectify the situation. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Crischelle Pana 4/15/2021 3:11 PMLike said in the Drawdown article, deep research and implementations of new technologies could help with to target deep underground cavities to create hydrothermal pools safely where they currently do not exist.

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Crischelle Pana 4/15/2021 2:56 PMFor me, my vision of a sustainable community would include people in the community living a high quality of life and in good health without sacrificing the well-being of the environment environmentally, economically, and socially. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered SinksCan biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?
