Carolee Dagenais 4/30/2021 3:02 PMLast day of challenge, thanks for organizing. Will take these lessons into the future! -
Carolee Dagenais 4/28/2021 3:21 PMThis week has been a little more tough with work but still trying to get things done! -
Carolee Dagenais 4/19/2021 1:15 PMHad a chance to spend time at the beach this weekend, I want to help this clean and safe for future generations! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Hear Hasten Regeneration talk about their reforestation projectsWhat is one thing you learn during the session?
Carolee Dagenais 4/18/2021 6:07 PMThat as a community, you can turn former barren land and turn it into a climate forest. The work going on here is amazing! It's so cool that you can do this around the world with the idea of dense forests. -
Carolee Dagenais 4/18/2021 5:32 PMHad a great weekend outdoors. Looked for alternatives to plastic doggie waste bags :). Recycled some clothes while cleaning out closets. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Research PeatlandsMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
Carolee Dagenais 4/12/2021 12:15 PMreduce palm oil usage so it does not encourage more areas creating space for palm oil. Support organizations trying to preserve peatlands. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn about Temperate ForestsAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Carolee Dagenais 4/12/2021 12:09 PMSome of the challenges we have in my area are that we are not "super urban." Because we aren't super populous, it makes it challenging to bring some alternative energy sources or cutting-edge techniques- re green refrigeration and biomass fuel. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Local Perennial BiomassClimate scientist Katharine Hayhoe states that "The reason we care about climate change is because it affects the people and places that we care about." What is happening (or will happen) in your area that will affect the people and places you care about?
Carolee Dagenais 4/12/2021 12:07 PMThere is discussion around grass biomass in Norther Maine as an alternative energy source. It would be converted to pellets to replace wood for pellet stoves -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Learn about 'Green Gentrification'Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?
Carolee Dagenais 4/12/2021 12:01 PMI would love our city to create more green buildings or green walls where plants can grow and people can enjoy visiting these spaces. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Express My Support For Equitable Biking InfrastructureWhat do you like most about biking in your city? What would you like to improve?
Carolee Dagenais 4/12/2021 11:59 AMPortland Me Area does a great job creating space for biking trails and preserves. Both road biking, trail rides, and mountain biking are available. An area of improvement would be to do what larger cities are doing for people to have access to community bikes they can use and drop at a different part of town.
