Action Track: Accelerating Solutions
Save Rigaud Mountain
Rigaud Mountain is an expansive natural resource that we rely upon to run many of our Outdoor Education courses, here at JAC. It is under extreme pressure from development and mismanagement, and in desperate need of protection. Facing COVID and the Climate Crisis, the need to protect our few remaining local intact forests, is more stronger than ever. We need them, for our health and wellness, and they are disappearing. If you are able, please support this important cause and take a few moments to forward this letter to others who understand its importance. The petition and funding pages are accessible through the "Learn More" button.

All Drawdown Solutions
I will calculate the greenhouse gas emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce my negative impact on the environment.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and EducationWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?
Martha Guerra 4/30/2021 6:11 PMThankfully, women's equal participation and representation is pretty good in Canada, it's definitely not the best, but I can say I see it getting better and better. Especially when I look at my home country, in Mexico there is so much inequality and there is definitely not enough women's participation nor representation, it's even dangerous just to be a woman there, it pains me to see how this is still going after so many years, but I have hope when I see all the people protesting for equality. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Martha Guerra 4/30/2021 6:05 PMWhat I love doing the most is walking, especially cause I can do it with mt dog and I love going on walks with her and seeing her enjoy the outdoors, she has been a big part of what's made me go outside more. I used to not go on many walks before, but even since I got her I go on walks all the time and I discovered my love for walking! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. How would you rather use this money?
Martha Guerra 4/30/2021 6:03 PMI would much rather spend this money on building another raised garden bed in my garden, this could also help me make some of my own food! -
Martha Guerra 4/29/2021 6:00 AMCan't wait to get some food from my garden like last summer!! -

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Martha Guerra 4/26/2021 11:23 AMWe can express our personalities without having to buy more clothes simply my matching the clothes we already own to express ourselves. While we can go to thrift stores and buy second hand, the best option really is not buying any more clothes at all. We all have more than enough clothes, we can learn to match them differently and even alter them slightly so we can keep using them while still expressing who we are. I love searching up diys or sewing up a ripped shirt, it always feels good to give a second life to something that you would otherwise stop using -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Martha Guerra 4/26/2021 11:20 AMIt's so different when we eat with distractions, especially nowadays that we're staring at a screen for so long. Taking the time to get off the screen while eating helps me feel much better, and it makes me enjoy my food even more -

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat are some more "R's" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
Martha Guerra 4/15/2021 11:09 AMSomething I love doing is repairing stuff or finding it another use, I always find it so satisfying to "diy" something and to be able to give a second life to something that would otherwise go in the trash, and you even get to save money! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildingsWhat are some of the benefits of making your home more energy efficient?
Martha Guerra 4/14/2021 1:30 PMMaking my home more energy efficient is not only good for saving money, by lowering down heating bills, but it is also good on saving energy itself. The reality is, we have to try to reduce our energy consumption as much as possible, even though we have hydro energy, which is better for the environment than a lot of other forms of energy, it still has negative impacts. For example, it may harm fish and other aquatic life.
