  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Share Bioplastic Disposal Tips
What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

    Lauren Veach's avatar
    Lauren Veach 4/28/2021 3:44 PM
I am concerned most with the lack of concern from most people. Most people think that either small behavioral changes don't matter or that climate change doesnt matter. We have a crisis of knowledge and understanding right now and I dont see much hope, unless you can reach some of those groups.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Research Cement Alternatives
Concrete is a good example of a material that most of us encounter every day, but its carbon footprint may not be obvious. What other everyday materials might have a large carbon footprint? How can you find out more?

    Lauren Veach's avatar
    Lauren Veach 4/28/2021 3:42 PM
    Glass and wood production?
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Properly Dispose of Refrigerants
How do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?

    Lauren Veach's avatar
    Lauren Veach 4/27/2021 8:03 AM
oof what a question. I try not to think about it. I do my best and try to get others to get on board. I know it really gets my fiancé in a funk to think about how depressing it all is especially when its not up to you to change
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Lauren Veach's avatar
    Lauren Veach 4/27/2021 7:59 AM
supermarket refrigerants could change the global temperature by half a degree. That's crazy. All it would take is for them to switch to a natural refrigerant.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Find a Local Climate-Friendly Supermarket
How close is the nearest climate-friendly supermarket to your home? How could you encourage local supermarket to reduce or phase out their use of HFC refrigerants?

    Lauren Veach's avatar
    Lauren Veach 4/27/2021 7:51 AM
There are NONE in Vegas. WHAT..... Some in reno and lots in CA. I signed a petition on the linked website to get a local supermarket to comply. They listed on the website that you can check what refrigerants supermarkets are using when you go to the store, and submit the ones that are using high pollutant refrigerants
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Lauren Veach's avatar
    Lauren Veach 4/27/2021 7:47 AM
The needs in the United States differ from those in a poorer country. Some of the women I learned about have no access to family planning and are not taught about it. In the US we are at least taught about it and have access to low cost birth control options
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Lauren Veach's avatar
    Lauren Veach 4/26/2021 9:31 AM
Seems like they are all arbitrary dates. States all have their own regulations. I just go by when the food looks or smells bad.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Building With Carbon Storing Waste Products
How feasible do you think it is for society to build with agricultural waste products?

    Lauren Veach's avatar
    Lauren Veach 4/26/2021 9:26 AM
Using hemp seems time intensive, but with practice and a more industrialized use of it, I think it could become widely used. It would make the most sense to use ag waste instead of uselessly throwing it away!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Learn about Biochar
Can biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?

    Lauren Veach's avatar
    Lauren Veach 4/22/2021 8:07 AM
Biochar stores nutrients and when added to plants they grow better. It also stores water, which also helps plants. Adding biochar to the soil, increases the biodeversity of microorganisms. Biochar increases crop yeilds.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Climate Resilience Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Lauren Veach's avatar
    Lauren Veach 4/22/2021 7:58 AM
I hadn't. I think there are several advantages. It is cost effective to grow grass to feed animals instead of buying feed. You can then sell the trees as you thin them out. I watched a video about goats and the goats eat all the invasive species in the east US, which is good since those plants are hard to manage and get rid of.
