I will Practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
Health and Education
Prairie Harm Reduction
I will email my elected officials and voice my support for safe consumption sites in my province.
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks

REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Learn about the Legacy of RedliningHow does city planning and design relate to equity and climate change?
Adrien van Dyke (she/her) 4/23/2021 4:21 PMMany BIPOC communities are more heavily impacted by the effects of climate change because of city planning. Neighbourhoods that have less green space in cities can be up to 11 degrees hotter (celsius) than neighbourhoods that have more green space. Red lining and city planning also impacts the availability or services like grocery stores, public libraries, and medical supports. The lack of access to these services has extirpated many health disparities. Another big impact of redlining has been its effects on the increasing racial Wealth Gap. Housing practices have a direct impact on who is able to own a home and build generational wealth from that property ownership. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Go PaperlessWhat do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Adrien van Dyke (she/her) 4/22/2021 11:26 AMI am now less incline to waste foods that are past their best before date!-
Nikita Bangera 4/22/2021 1:30 PMMy roommate always stores bread in the freezer and heats it up when she wants to eat it. It stores bread up to 3 weeks past the expiration date without any problems!

Adrien van Dyke (she/her) 4/21/2021 9:36 PMTo learn more about regenerative agriculture I watched the documentary film "Kiss the Ground" I am excited to discuss what I learned at the SustainEastBay club meeting tomorrow @ 4:00 PM!!! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn More about Regenerative AgricultureClean air, clean water and healthy food are just three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. What are some other reasons? How could/does regenerative agriculture positively impact you and your community?
Adrien van Dyke (she/her) 4/21/2021 9:29 PMSaskatchewan is a BIG agriculture province, both of my parents grew up on farms and a I have a lot of extended family that still are. I had heard about regenerative farming before, but didn't fully understand the concept or it's importance. I am extremely interested in the benefits this could have in our province and will continue to do research on what farms in the area already practice this. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Connect With A NonprofitWhat are the most pressing issues for women, girls, and trans/nonbinary people in your community?
Adrien van Dyke (she/her) 4/21/2021 8:37 AMOn April 28th, the city council of Regina will vote on whether or not to support the federal ban on conversation therapy. About a week ago a city wellness committee voted on whether or not to send the bill to the city council. The rhetoric of this meeting however allowed for many transphobic conversations to take place, and did little to oppose them. After reading an open letter written by a trans advocate in the community, I am now more aware of the what has happened and what it means in terms of rising transphobic groups in the area. While this committee did vote for the bill to move to city council, the author of the open letter discusses how the members were ill-equipped to hold such a meeting in an apprise way. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Host a Film ScreeningThank you for raising awareness of women's and gender equality issues. What is the next step to actually address this disparity?
Adrien van Dyke (she/her) 4/20/2021 8:34 AMThe next step to addressing this disparity would be supporting local organizations and initiatives where women are facing these barriers, as well ad just normalizing and having conversations on this topic with people in my life.
I watched Period. End of Sentence with the SustainEastBay club and then again yesterday with my mom and sister. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Adrien van Dyke (she/her) 4/17/2021 5:34 PMImplementing some of the R's can be a little harder when you aren't living on your own, but part of that is because I don't participate in the grocery or supplies buying as much as I could be. When I am at school and I am incorporating these into my lifestyle it helps me feel more in control. We were running out of laundry detergent, so instead of waiting I was proactive and purchased a lower waste solution! -
Adrien van Dyke (she/her) 4/15/2021 12:35 PMLoose leaf tea is a great lower waste solution to enjoy a hot drink (I also find the blends have more flavour, extra bonus), I have slowly been switching some of my tea blends to loose leaf once I run out pre bagged tea. Keeping warm on a snowy April day in Saskatchewan. -
Adrien van Dyke (she/her) 4/12/2021 4:21 PMGot to open up a new shampoo bar. I don't think I've purchased bottled hair products for almost three years. One of favourite waste reducing swaps (and a really easy one)!
