REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use CompostingProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
Carrie Trabona 4/26/2021 11:23 AMThe water usage and energy waste of producing food that goes uneaten are the two kinds of waste that motivate me. Meal planning has been great for helping to cut our household food waste. I am not able to compost on site as I am in a townhouse, but I freeze my bags of compost and take them to our local drop off once a week. I am also super excited as I ordered my vermicomposting setup, now that it feels safer to ship worms :-) I am excited to share with my daughter, the magic of watching leftovers turn into amazing soil booster for our small garden and the gardens of family members.-
Jennifer Yuen 4/28/2021 11:14 AMCan't wait to see how this turns out Carrie! Send us pictures of the results!!

REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Smart Seafood ChoicesMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Carrie Trabona 4/26/2021 11:19 AMI have made an effort to only buy my animal proteins from Whole Foods, as they have a grading system for their meat and post the origins of their seafood. As I am shifting towards a plant based diet, I have taken the time to learn more about the fishing practices and finding out about the sustainability of the producers. My seafood consumption falls within the guidelines for the United States, however I have learned about a few new fish that I may have to work into the rotation.-
Jennifer Yuen 4/28/2021 11:15 AMWould love to hear about your journey shifting towards a plant-based diet - you are an inspiration to us all!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Carrie Trabona 4/16/2021 6:54 AMEating in front of the TV became the norm during COVID, and when my daughter and I moved back to the table it was such a great shift. We ate slowly, talking to each other about our day. We ate less when we slowed down too. It was a great experiment that has become our normal again. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Replace Manual ThermostatsHow do you anticipate replacing your thermostats for smart ones will positively impact your life?
Carrie Trabona 4/07/2021 7:35 AMThe time settings are already making a difference. I was horrible at remembering to turn down the heat before bed, and now it always shifts to a lower temp at 830pm. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Upgrade My WindowsHow does improving your home's (or office's) energy efficiency help you better live out your values?
Carrie Trabona 4/07/2021 7:30 AMDuring the demo of the model of windows, I was able to see how they will help to keep out the heat in the summer and the cold in the winter. This will decrease the amount of energy used for temperature control. Not only does it minimize the heat and cold coming in, but also leaking out. I am looking forward to seeing the change in my utility bills year over year.
