REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Learn about 'Green Gentrification'Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?
Liv Suydam 5/06/2021 1:57 PMWe can tackle the affordable housing problem and raise the minimum wage so people can afford to stay in the green neighborhoods. We can use climate change as an opportunity to provide jobs to make the city more sustainable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Research PeatlandsMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
Liv Suydam 4/29/2021 1:36 PMWe can vote for politicians that care about peatlands and tell our friends and family about how important they are.-
Liv Suydam 4/29/2021 1:37 PMAlso, we can reduce our palm oil intake.

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More about BiomassHad you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!
Liv Suydam 4/29/2021 12:25 PMI haven’t heard of biomass technology before. I’m surprised that solutions like these aren’t as common because it is beneficial in so many ways. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Liv Suydam 4/29/2021 11:53 AMI think one of the most simple ways to achieve a sustainable community is to plant more trees! That will reduce a carbon footprint by a lot. I also think switching to green energy sources and re-using waste will help as well. However, on a large scale, regulations and policies need to be put into place that controls big corpations. The U.S. military is a bigger polluter than 140 countries. Amazon emitted 51.17 million tons of carbon dioxide in 2019 alone. Earth would be a much more sustainable place if there were rules and regulations about the environment that everyone would have to follow. We can vote for candidates who support green plans and educate our families and friend about how to be more sustainable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More About Geothermal EnergyGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Liv Suydam 4/29/2021 10:29 AMWe should invest in geothermal energy in places where there is access to a lot of underground water. We should start investing on a smaller scale, to make sure it is safe and then once it is approved we should invest on a large scale. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Research Barriers to Participation and RepresentationWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?
Liv Suydam 4/15/2021 12:32 PMIn America, there are much fewer barriers that exist to women but there are still big things like the pay gap, not enough representation in politics, sexual harassment, society's expectations for women, etc. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Liv Suydam 4/15/2021 11:18 AMI will judge whether or not to eat my food by its physical qualities and use expiration dates as helpful indicators and guidelines instead of just throwing something away solely based on the expiration date. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Learn about the Need for Family PlanningWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?
Liv Suydam 4/15/2021 9:43 AMI learned that family planning can help reduce the number of carbon emissions in the long term and that it can help save the lives of young girls around the world in the short term. Some places need just education and other places need resources like contraceptives.
