REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Christopher Stazzone 4/12/2021 2:35 PMNow that we are a couple weeks into Ecochallenge, and I have had some time to note a lot of the infrastructure that makes walking easy and more enjoyable, there are some common themes I have found whether I am walking around my home or elsewhere. The proper infrastructure to make walking safe is a necessity. When cars are prioritized over pedestrians it makes walking, biking, or any activity that isn't driving a car more dangerous. Sidewalks, street signs, or over-street walkways are great pieces of infrastructure that make it much easier to be a pedestrian. Suburban sprawl also makes it more difficult to be a walker. When everything is so spread out that you MUST drive a car to effectively get anywhere then walking becomes an out of the way activity. Finally, I have noticed that natural beauty makes my walks much more enjoyable. Whether it is just a few plants here and there or if I am walking on a forest trail, any natural scenes are much better mood boosters than parking lots and buildings.
