  • REFLECTION QUESTION

    Kailey Smith's avatar
    Kailey Smith 4/30/2021 3:22 PM
Creating equal opportunities and access to many different options to all people will allow a city to affect all people.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Learn about 'Green Gentrification'
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

    Kailey Smith's avatar
    Kailey Smith 4/30/2021 3:21 PM
To make climate action plans equitable and socially just, you need to engage all members of the community, to get a variety of opinions on personal impacts to then recognize the issues to be addressed.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Explore Other Electricity Solutions
What is the most exciting solution you explored? Why is it exciting to you?

    Kailey Smith's avatar
    Kailey Smith 4/30/2021 3:20 PM
Solar panels have always been an obvious solution to saving electricity, but I feel more excited now about how attainable it is.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Kailey Smith's avatar
    Kailey Smith 4/30/2021 3:19 PM
If I speak about geothermal energy when I am assigned to a project to engage our clients into installing geothermal energy, I can make an impact that way.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Climate Resilience Tend A Garden
Have you ever had a significant experience in nature that altered your perspective or focus? If so, please describe it.

    Kailey Smith's avatar
    Kailey Smith 4/28/2021 9:48 AM
I have not, but going to Ireland was a great experience and made me feel more connected to nature.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Kailey Smith's avatar
    Kailey Smith 4/22/2021 11:32 AM
I had never heard of silvopasture until now, but it seems like such a simple concept that should be used universally. The biggest and most obvious advantage to me seems to be the natural assistance of nature helping nature.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Kailey Smith's avatar
    Kailey Smith 4/22/2021 8:42 AM
It makes me feel more confident that I use my best judgment to determine whether or not the food is still fine to consume. I usually trusted the numbers on the container and would toss the food to not risk getting sick. But knowing that I ignore (to an extent) I feel like I will be wasting less food.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

    Kailey Smith's avatar
    Kailey Smith 4/22/2021 8:35 AM
There are so many ways to express yourself in ways that don't require fast fashion. In my opinion, fast fashion follows trends and doesn't typically involve as much self-expression as one may think. Investing in well-made and ethically made fashion can involve a lot more effort and care into what defines your style.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Research Cement Alternatives
Concrete is a good example of a material that most of us encounter every day, but its carbon footprint may not be obvious. What other everyday materials might have a large carbon footprint? How can you find out more?

    Kailey Smith's avatar
    Kailey Smith 4/22/2021 8:32 AM
Steel is another material that has a large carbon footprint. The production process and importing of steel are what cause the high carbon footprint.
