Chris's actions
Transportation
Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 20 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.
Land Sinks
Explore My Area
Sometimes protecting nature requires feeling connected to nature. I will invest 45 minutes in exploring and appreciating a natural area in my region, whether a forest, wetland, coastal area, or somewhere else.
Land Sinks
Forest-Friendly Foods 1
Tropical Forest Restoration
I will spend at least 20 minutes researching the impact of my diet to see how it contributes to deforestation.
Health and Education
Learn about the Need for Family Planning
Health and Education
I will spend at least 25 minutes learning more about the need for family planning globally.
Electricity
Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
Methane Digesters
I will watch a video about methane digesters (also commonly known as anaerobic digesters).
Industry
Recycle Everything I Can
Recycling
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Industry
Practice the 5 R's
Recycling
I will Practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Learn More about Regenerative Agriculture
Conservation Agriculture, Regenerative Annual Cropping
I will spend at least 20 minutes learning about the need for more regenerative agriculture.
Electricity
Choose LED Bulbs
LED Lighting
I will replace 8 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Action Track: Climate Resilience
Support Local Food Systems
Plant-Rich Diets
I will source 25 percent of my food from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Chris Severson 4/24/2021 1:47 PMOnly 6 days left Team ESR! I am so happy to have had this experience through Earth Month. This Eco challenge has taught me so much about how small steps turn into big rewards to the impact we have on our normal every day of living. Thanks for this opportunity to open my eyes to the bigger things in life, sustainability for our Earth's future. Be well. -
Chris Severson 4/01/2021 11:05 AMHello Team ESR, I am excited and nervous all in one. I am excited to be a part of this, and see how I can challenge myself to ensure a safer and better future for all of us. Good luck everyone, and any pointers for me would be much appreciated. This is my first time doing this, so a little nervous, but lots of excitement. Peace-
Jessica Jones 4/02/2021 11:34 AMNo need to be nervous, any act you do to make something better is appreciated. I am excited to find new challenges and to hold myself accountable. This should be liberating and I look forward to this opportunity with this team.
