Industry
Recycle Everything I Can
Recycling
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions
Advocate For More Packaging Options
Multiple Industry Solutions
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions
Spread the Word about Energy Alternatives
All Electricity Solutions
I will research and tell 1 people each day about the benefits of alternative energy sources like wind turbines, solar energy, geothermal energy, and methane digesters.
Transportation
Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 30 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.
Industry
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Bioplastics
Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and BIPOC-majority neighborhoods. I will avoid buying and using 5 single-use plastics and instead replace them with durable options.
Action Track: Climate Resilience
Tend A Garden
I will tend to a garden, or prepare for one, each day using sustainable gardening practices.
Health and Education
Start a Social Media Campaign
Health and Education
Through social media, I will raise awareness about gender inequity in education by sharing the information found in the links below.
Land Sinks
Explore My Area
Sometimes protecting nature requires feeling connected to nature. I will invest 60 minutes in exploring and appreciating a natural area in my region, whether a forest, wetland, coastal area, or somewhere else.
Industry
Practice the 5 R's
Recycling
I will Practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
Reduced Food Waste
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Smaller Portions
Reduced Food Waste
I will use smaller plates and/or serve smaller portions when dishing out food.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Reduce Animal Products
Plant-Rich Diets
I will enjoy 1 meatless or vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Electricity
Explore Other Electricity Solutions
All Electricity Solutions
I will spend at least 30 minutes researching other Drawdown Electricity Solutions.
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions
Support Local Food Systems
Plant-Rich Diets
I will source 25 percent of my food from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.

Jennifer Sabado 4/30/2021 8:07 AMI hope to adopt many of the things I learned from this challenge or actions I tried to perform daily beyond April. It feels nice to make even a small different in my community. Looking forward to continuing many of these tasks. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Explore Other Electricity SolutionsWhat is the most exciting solution you explored? Why is it exciting to you?
Jennifer Sabado 4/12/2021 10:18 AMI currently rent an apartment, so unfortunately I am a little confined in what changes I can make. But as we look to rent or purchase a small home, I hope to be able to move into a place that is at least partially solar powered. Solar power is big in the area I live in. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating Solutions Advocate For More Packaging OptionsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Jennifer Sabado 4/12/2021 10:16 AMWe watch a lot of documentaries about our effect on the planet. Living in Northern California, one of my biggest concerns is that global warming and glaciers melting will increase sea level and change the landscape and coastlines dramatically in my lifetime. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating Solutions Spread the Word about Energy AlternativesWhat inspiration and wisdom can you gather from your family, faith, or community traditions that would help you in both communicating about and addressing our most pressing energy issues?
Jennifer Sabado 4/12/2021 10:15 AMI have family and friends that work in sustainable energy and having open conversations with these contacts about what they know is going to be helpful for me to learn more. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Jennifer Sabado 4/09/2021 8:48 AMDue to the pandemic, many local grocery stores are not allowing personal reusable bags for your items, so I would like to figure out how to move away from this. Perhaps when I go shopping, I don't get bags and just fill my cart with my purchases and then bag my items at my car? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Practice the 5 R'sWhat are some more "R's" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
Jennifer Sabado 4/09/2021 8:46 AMI think I do a great job with the 5 R's in general, but I would like to remain vigilant and continuing to do more with regards to reusing or repurposing items instead of just recycling or throwing things away. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Start a Social Media CampaignHow are people responding to the statistics you're sharing on social media?
Jennifer Sabado 4/09/2021 8:45 AMThere have been some interactions with folks I haven't heard from in a while, so in addition to sharing great information, I am catching up with old friends. Win/win! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Jennifer Sabado 4/09/2021 8:44 AMI am a meat lover, but I do understand the impact of this so I try to have at least one meal per day that is vegan to help do my part. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Jennifer Sabado 4/09/2021 8:42 AMRepurposing items that I used to throw away is my new favorite thing to do! Because of the pandemic and being home more, I've found unique ways to repurpose things and throw less away.
