REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Learn About & Practice Sustainable FashionHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Avery Roos 4/25/2021 12:00 AMI like to paint my old clothes so that I don't have to throw them away so soon, and my friends and I trade clothes when we don't want them anymore. That's really all though, I haven't gone shopping in about 3 ish years because I just reuse my old clothes and I don't see a need for like hauls of new clothes every year. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Tend A GardenHave you ever had a significant experience in nature that altered your perspective or focus? If so, please describe it.
Avery Roos 4/24/2021 10:38 PMI feel like I have significant experiences in nature all the time, really! When I go to a creek or a river, I am always amazed at how the landscape is shaped to make these beautiful natural sights, and at all the different little organisms that they can support. I'd say one experience that made me realize how important nature is to me was when I went backpacking on a little peninsula by the ocean and found peace just standing on these huge rocks leading out into the waves. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Avery Roos 4/12/2021 1:58 PMI had never heard about the term silvopasture before this, but it seems to be a very effective way of combing agricultural practices while also protecting our environment by carbon sequestering. Wasting a whole field for cows isn't the smartest way, and combining food sources with animals in the same location could be a great step towards more sustainable farming practices. -
Avery Roos 4/06/2021 11:48 PMI joined the challenge because our environmental science class introduced it to us as an assignment, and it is a great way to organize efforts to combat negative environmental impacts. Even before the class, I was looking for a way to make more of a difference, so I'm glad this is part of our learning and will have real-life benefits! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Avery Roos 4/06/2021 11:45 PMAfter watching the video about the anaerobic digester, I realized that we can use our waste to create more resources, and that a clean society is one where we effectively recycle our polluters, instead of just focusing on absolutely clean resources all the time. In order for programs like the anaerobic digester to be implemented, we would need to put more funding towards waste recycling, and start shifting our energy sources to the recycled energy, or at least clean energy instead of fossil fuels.
