Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 30 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Support Local Food Systems
Plant-Rich Diets
I will source 40 percent of my food from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Eat Mindfully
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Keep Track of Wasted Food
Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during Earth Month Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Joelle Rango 4/29/2021 7:19 PMI always walked around my neighborhood but I always had my earphones and never really paid attention to the surrounding around me but then I decided to start going with someone else and it forced me to not only engage more with my surrounding and also engage in meaningful conversations -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Keep Track of Wasted FoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. How would you rather use this money?
Joelle Rango 4/29/2021 6:25 PMI'll rather use this money for helping to donate to charities that are trying to build better communities for people in disadvantaged communities or people who don't have access to local food. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Joelle Rango 4/15/2021 12:17 AMFor me, it was very easy to just put food on the plate and then just put something to watch and distract me and not really being mindful of the food on my plate. This time I was able to take some time and not use any device while eating and at first, but it gets easier with practice and food is just more enjoyable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Local Food SystemsDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
Joelle Rango 4/15/2021 12:03 AMSupporting farmers helps to promote building more resilient communities which helps also to promote a more sustainable lifestyle. It also promotes a sort of friendship between the farmer and the buyer.
