I will spend at least 35 minutes researching heat pumps to see if installing one makes sense for my home/building.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Composting Webinar
I attended a composting 101 webinar offered by a Landscape Architect with a passion for composting. I chose to attend for an hour to learn more about how to navigate this on a personal level and manage within a home. We have been composting within the office for a few years but I do not oversee the process once it leaves our space. It was helpful to understand the how, what and why this is a positive choice to take.
Health and Education
Movements in Materials Webinar
Attended a webinar regarding movements in materials and increasing the amount of specs we use that have a lower carbon footprint on the buildings we build! It was something hosted by our region for Earth Week and it seemed interesting to me to see how things have evolved over years with our clients and how our team is doing a great job to promote these updates with research and data.

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Research Heat PumpsWhy is taking action on climate change important to you? Why do you care?
Jenna Novielli 4/30/2021 7:25 AMIt is apparent that as humans, our lifestyle, transportation, actions and way of life takes a toll on our planet. If we want future generations to experience the beautiful place we know it can be, we need to help conserve anywhere we can. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Choose Recycled PaperGood job on choosing recycled paper! How can you take your action a step further?
Jenna Novielli 4/30/2021 7:19 AMThere seems to always be a recycled option when making certain purchases, and I make it a point to take advantage! Whether it's cards, bags, shipping products, clothing items, food containers, etc. There are multiple ways to recycle and paper is just the beginning and easiest to choose from when you don't notice a difference! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Jenna Novielli 4/30/2021 7:18 AMMeat can be expensive! It almost becomes a luxury for those who have the money to spend and get fancier cuts or experiences. Meat is not necessarily good for our bodies depending on how often or which type of meat is ingested. It takes a toll on our planet to create grazing space for animals and it takes water and vegetation resources to feed them, just to create a small amount of meat for consuming. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Jenna Novielli 4/30/2021 7:13 AMThis was the first I heard of silvopasture. I learned there are several advantages over timber or pasture alone and a return on investment. By adding a livestock production component, sillvopasture creates a stable source of cash flow prior to nut or timber harvest and diversifies the forestry enterprise. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating Solutions Advocate For More Packaging OptionsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Jenna Novielli 4/30/2021 7:11 AMPeople are more concerned with immediate satisfaction and their own actions as opposed to thinking long term about the affects we are causing for future generations or deterioration of our planet. Locally, there is not enough community engagement or concern to unite and accomplish such tasks to help our neighborhoods and hold us accountable. -
Jenna Novielli 4/27/2021 1:18 PMI can see the improvements made over the last 27 days with research, knowledge and accountability. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Support Businesses Owned by Women, BIPOC, or ImmigrantsGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. What have you done in the past to support women-owned businesses? How can you better support communities by supporting women?
Jenna Novielli 4/27/2021 1:17 PMIt helps to research! There are a lot of women-owned businesses that may not have as much of a marketing budget but it helps to ask around, search online, share when you can! It is easy to fall into the routine of large corporations, especially with delivery turnaround times during Covid, but we should always want to support our own when we can. Once I know what I'm in the market for it's easier to narrow the search to local/women-owned businesses. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating Solutions Conduct Virtual MeetingsHow can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?
Jenna Novielli 4/27/2021 1:11 PMWe host all sorts of meetings virtually, which I think encourages our culture and is inclusive of all audiences. Sometimes the meetings are more formal while others are quick check-ins or activities, which is how it would be if we were all in the office. -
Jenna Novielli 4/23/2021 10:10 AMWooo!!! We are doing so great, keep up the good work! GO TEAM CHICAGO!! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Jenna Novielli 4/23/2021 9:07 AMA sustainable community would be adaptable, resourceful and evolving. It would be a diverse community able to address multiple human needs focusing on education, adapting to change for future generations and focusing on the people and planet. People would need to change their mindset to focus on what others need as opposed to personal wants and be thinking about how to best serve the planet going forward. It would also take a great deal of education to help everyone grasp the how, what and why.
