Waste to energy. It is a win-win, we are cutting down on waste buried in our earth and making energy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Zero-waste Cooking
In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

    Amanda Martinez's avatar

It's been a while. But being out in the middle of no where where there is dark sky and being able to really see all the stars.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Identify some ways in which modern human societies have become unsustainable. What kind of roles do individuals have in creating and changing practices in society?

    Amanda Martinez's avatar
    Amanda Martinez 4/30/2021 7:24 AM
We feel like we made it so we can throw it away and all of these decades of plastic just sitting there, not breaking down. We are making a move towards being more sustainable, but it takes daily conscious choices
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How could better walking infrastructure make your city both more enjoyable and more equitable?

    Amanda Martinez's avatar
    Amanda Martinez 4/30/2021 7:23 AM
We have places where the ground has shifted and I have an elderly friend who tripped over this uneven ground and broke a bone. I would love to see something to fix this.

What do you like most about biking in your city? What would you like to improve?

    Amanda Martinez's avatar
    Amanda Martinez 4/30/2021 7:21 AM
I like that we have side walks but they could be improved by widening them to include walking and biking lanes
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Climate Resilience Support a Community Garden
What are the multiple benefits of community gardens, including carbon sequestration? Why do these benefits matter to you?

    Amanda Martinez's avatar
    Amanda Martinez 4/30/2021 7:20 AM
I think the biggest one is learning where your food comes from, especially in under served communities where there is a food desert.

    Amanda Martinez's avatar

Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?

    Amanda Martinez's avatar
    Amanda Martinez 4/29/2021 6:43 AM
I donated all my soft white LED bulbs to a neighbor. My grandpa had purchased them, I won't use the yellow lights, and now I am making a switch to LED for someone else.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Amanda Martinez's avatar
    Amanda Martinez 4/29/2021 6:41 AM
Because I know that you need to look more closely to what it is telling you. It's not necessarily the expiration. These companies are trying to make you buy more by creating unnecessary food waste.
