REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Calculate My Carbon FootprintWhat stood out to you most about your carbon footprint? What surprised you or sparked curiosity? Where can you take most immediate action?
Kaleigh Lucas 5/03/2021 12:48 AMHow little I know about my family's footprint. I would like to know if we could purchase renewable energy or use more sustainable sources. In the future, I hope to purchase a more energy efficient car, or join one of those rent-a-car services because I don't use my car very much. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Tend A GardenHave you ever had a significant experience in nature that altered your perspective or focus? If so, please describe it.
Kaleigh Lucas 5/03/2021 12:38 AMIt feels nice, and grounding to get my hands dirty and tend to the garden. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Learn about 'Green Gentrification'Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?
Kaleigh Lucas 5/03/2021 12:37 AMI don't think there is a way to make climate solutions without being unjust. The neighborhoods that need most change are those that are the cheapest and so the residents will be bought out so new infrastructure can be built. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating Solutions Research and Advocate for High-Speed RailWhat are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?
Kaleigh Lucas 5/03/2021 12:31 AMIt's mainly the convenience and perception of safety. I didn't grow up taking trimet like some people have and as a young female I just don't feel comfortable riding public transport by myself. I don't know what would need to change, I do try to ride my bike when the weather is nice. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Research the Climate Impact of RefrigerantsWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
Kaleigh Lucas 5/03/2021 12:20 AMI learned that refrigerators and air conditioners have had some of the worst impact on the ozone layer. Supermarkets contribute greatly and only the ALDI company has committed over 50% to being more efficient. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Kaleigh Lucas 5/03/2021 12:15 AMFoods are typically still safe to eat after the expiration date if handled properly, so unless there is bacteria growing it doesn't need to be thrown out. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Kaleigh Lucas 5/03/2021 12:11 AMWe need to switch to more sustainable energy. We have the ability to do so, but are choosing to continue to use carbon emitting gasses. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Online Energy AuditWhat are your next steps for saving energy?
Kaleigh Lucas 5/03/2021 12:08 AMAdd more insulation into the walls of our house to help regulate the temperature and save electricity. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Support Businesses Owned by Women, BIPOC, or ImmigrantsGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. What have you done in the past to support women-owned businesses? How can you better support communities by supporting women?
Kaleigh Lucas 5/03/2021 12:04 AMI have tried to do research, or attempt to purchase from female owned companies. And now that I have done more research, I have found more female owned businesses that I would like to purchase from in the future.
