Donna's actions
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Tend A Garden
I will tend to a garden, or prepare for one, each day using sustainable gardening practices.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Composting
Composting, Reduced Food Waste
I will start a compost bin where I live.
Industry
Launch a Recycling Program
Recycling
I will set up a recycling center at my workplace or school.
Industry
Choose Recycled Paper
Recycled Paper
I will plan ahead to only use paper products made from post-consumer recycled paper for my home or office.
Industry
Recycle Everything I Can
Recycling
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Electricity
Choose LED Bulbs
LED Lighting
I will replace 3 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Transportation
Conduct Virtual Meetings
Telepresence
I will encourage my office to hold meetings virtually whenever possible instead of requiring travel.
Transportation
Use Muscle Power
Multiple Transportation Solutions
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.
Transportation
Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 15 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Donna Lew 4/29/2021 10:57 AMWe've been practicing recycling ever since my boys were in grade school. We still go to the recycling center with a van load of recyclables. Anything that is recyclable that does not go to recycling center goes into the recycling bin for city pick up or if reusable we will find ways to repurpose. It feels good to be able to help minimize what is going to land fills and to help the next generation continue on with the practice of recycling. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Donna Lew 4/21/2021 8:19 AMI try to take a walk during a break and invite a family member to join me for a quick walk, which provides an opportunity for good conversation. Wish I could do this everyday, but calendar gets booked with calls and assignments, but I get out there as often as I can. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Use Muscle PowerHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Donna Lew 4/15/2021 8:36 AMWith walking you can enjoy the view more, get some cardio and develop deeper relationships. if some walks with you. Walking is a better opportunity to have a deeper conversation with someone than driving or riding a bike somewhere with them. Talking while riding a bike or driving a car may cause distraction or take away from the conversation because need to focus on the road. Walking is a slower pace so you may enjoy what is around you, ie the Spring flowers that are blooming, birds chirping in the trees, children playing in their yards, etc.
