Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Learn about 'Green Gentrification'
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

    Lilah Kirby 4/30/2021 7:48 AM
We should start by creating more homeless shelters and resources and make them easier to access. We also need to hold the city accountable for their actions against homeless people and people of color.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Lilah Kirby's avatar
    Lilah Kirby 4/29/2021 9:17 AM
I will try and spread the word about investing geothermal energy whether that is posting about it on social media or discussing it with my family members. I will also talk to my family about investing money into some kind of funding for geothermal energy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Lilah Kirby's avatar
    Lilah Kirby 4/28/2021 10:19 AM
My vision of a sustainable community looks like everyone doing their part to create appropriate and effective solutions to reuse/reduce waste.  In order for my vision to become a reality we will need to change our attitudes and perspectives. We also need to act like a community.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Lilah Kirby 4/27/2021 9:02 AM
I had never heard of biomass technology. I learned that you reuse waste to make energy in ways that you probably haven’t thought of or might surprise you.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Lilah Kirby's avatar
    Lilah Kirby 4/26/2021 9:10 AM
I can research about solutions I can personally do and also pay attention to events happening to the peatlands.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Lilah Kirby's avatar
    Lilah Kirby 4/20/2021 9:07 AM
I have become more cautious and aware about the products I am buying or the actions I am doing that can harmfully impact the earth. It is overwhelming to think about the rate in which we are destroying the earth and how much work it will take to reverse the damage. I feel hopeful when I am able to layer about solutions that I can actually do myself.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Lilah Kirby's avatar
    Lilah Kirby 4/19/2021 9:17 AM
I need to reduce the amount of animal products I eat. I also need to pay more attention to the Cocoa powder I buy because I have that a lot. I am going to talk to my family about looking for more alternatives to palm oil.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Lilah Kirby's avatar
    Lilah Kirby 4/16/2021 10:24 AM
I had never heard of the term silvopasture before this assignment. I think the biggest advantage of silvopasture is that it improves the health of the workers and the animals because I think that is really important.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Lilah Kirby's avatar
    Lilah Kirby 4/15/2021 9:21 AM
It empowers me because it allows me to see and know when something is truly waste or not which can help the climate.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Lilah Kirby's avatar
    Lilah Kirby 4/12/2021 12:22 PM
Some of the barriers that exist in my community is that not everyone is able to afford feminine products. In politics women are not as represented as men are and this can have a big effect on women's confidence.
