  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Explore My Area
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

    Sarah Johnson's avatar
    Sarah Johnson 4/29/2021 4:15 PM
We are more likely to feel invested in protecting something that we feel connected to. By exploring our natural environment, learning the plants, touching the soil, etc. gives me a greater appreciation and compels me to want to protect it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

    Sarah Johnson's avatar
    Sarah Johnson 4/29/2021 4:13 PM
I have a hybrid vehicle and save a lot of money on fuel and vehicle maintenance.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Take the CA Clean Air Pledge
What actions can you take to reduce air pollution?

    Sarah Johnson's avatar
    Sarah Johnson 4/29/2021 4:13 PM
I drive as little as possible, which is easy right now during COVID :) I also have a hybrid vehicle and always consolidate trips to the most efficient route so I'm not driving unnecessary miles.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Conduct Virtual Meetings
How can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?

    Sarah Johnson's avatar
    Sarah Johnson 4/29/2021 4:12 PM
It's important to assess how information can be conveyed most effectively. Does a meeting need to take place or can it be handled via a phone call, email, or other means? It's also good to still check in with people and have small talk if possible just as we would in-person to maintain social connections.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Sarah Johnson's avatar
    Sarah Johnson 4/29/2021 4:10 PM
It's a beautiful time of year to go for a morning walk and see all of the flowers blooming!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Reduce Single-Use Disposables
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Sarah Johnson's avatar
    Sarah Johnson 4/01/2021 4:06 PM
I've stopped using single-use straws, beverage cups, sandwich bags, and have replaced them with reusable items. I still purchase some items that come in single-use plastic like berries, bread, crackers, etc. so I would love to start making these myself of finding a place to purchase that doesn't have plastic.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Go Paperless
What do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?

    Sarah Johnson's avatar
    Sarah Johnson 4/01/2021 3:55 PM
I opted out of paper junk mail last year and receive so much less now! I highly recommend it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Sarah Johnson's avatar
    Sarah Johnson 4/01/2021 3:54 PM
More intentional eating, less food waste, and less calorie intake.
