Cheryle Hunt 4/26/2021 5:00 PMI have not done a good job of noting daily actions, but I have been a conscientious human and consumer this month, as well as other months. I really do try, and actually "do" as well! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Indigenous Peoples' Land ManagementIndigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?
Cheryle Hunt 4/26/2021 4:57 PMThere cannot be sustainability without balance, each requires the other. Balance is in the definition of sustainability basically, because a healthy balance of mind, body, and those put into action, makes for a sustained mind and body which will flow outward to those around you, as well as inward. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller PortionsWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Cheryle Hunt 4/13/2021 8:43 AMSmaller portions are best for my mostly sedentary position while working. I tend to have less energy if I eat too much at one sitting as well.-
Michelle Courtney 4/15/2021 8:45 AMEspecially on those hills today in Irvine.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Cheryle Hunt 4/13/2021 8:42 AMA high meat diet can be harsh on the body to digest. All these high protein diets are not good for the planet due to all the farming involved, nor is it any good for our kidneys. That kind of diet can be harmful in the long run due to elevated protein levels affecting the kidneys, as well as the heart.-
Michelle Courtney 4/15/2021 8:47 AMPeople think having a steak everyday is the idea meal but yet in the States we have a high amount of heart disease.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Cheryle Hunt 4/13/2021 8:40 AMI have noticed a lot of trash on my daily walks actually. I bring a bag to pick up trash along the way. A new crosswalk on a main road near my neighborhood has made crossing that street much easier and safer.-
Michelle Courtney 4/15/2021 8:40 AMSo much trash! Keep picking it up. Thank you.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Zero-waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?
-
Michelle Courtney 4/15/2021 8:40 AMI agree!
