REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Alex Huber 4/30/2021 6:40 PMIt felt really good planting some trees in my backyard! Theyre still just saplings, but nature really helps balance my mental and spiritual health. I love sitting out there, just meditating, relaxing, and enjoying my time. Knowing that I’ve helped new things grow just feels good. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use CompostingProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
Alex Huber 4/27/2021 5:41 PMLand and energy waste motivates me to change my behavior. These are just little things that can be changed to make a big impact. I can now fertilize my garden with things that would’ve been thrown away or disregarded anyways, so it makes the best of both worlds! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating Solutions Research and Advocate for High-Speed RailWhat are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?
Alex Huber 4/26/2021 6:18 PMMost of the time, my transportation is based on money and convenience. I have my own car and a job, so it's easy to pay for those services, and it's convenient for me to use since I own it. I would love to have an electric car, but it's typically more expensive, and as a college student as well, I can only afford to work part-time. If I had more time on my hands to afford more climate-friendly options I would most definitely do so. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Find a Local Climate-Friendly SupermarketHow close is the nearest climate-friendly supermarket to your home? How could you encourage local supermarket to reduce or phase out their use of HFC refrigerants?
Alex Huber 4/21/2021 8:08 PMThe nearest climate-friendly supermarket to my house is about a 20-minute drive away. It would be great to show support for this particular supermarket and hope that the others surrounding the area would catch on as well! It would be great for all of them to make more environmentally friendly changes in hopes for a better future -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Alex Huber 4/21/2021 8:03 PMMy diet is impacting deforestation in a lot of ways, yet not as much as I thought it would be. I drink a lot of coffee and consume a lot of chocolate and eggs, but I don't really eat meat or dairy all that often. A big contributor to deforestation is soy and coffee, which a majority of the soy is fed to animals, but many working adults cannot go a day without a cup of coffee, myself included. I'd love to slow down my coffee intake and increase my water intake instead, which would both help my caffeine addiction and the environment. I'd love to also go fully vegetarian, as I only eat chicken at the moment, and know that there are plenty of great alternatives! Eating the soy directly as tofu is a great way to slow down deforestation, as you need less farm land to just grow soy and eat it directly rather than grow soy to feed to animals and then eat the animals. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Nutrient ManagementHow does environmental quality influence your sense of community?
Alex Huber 4/19/2021 5:18 PMIt feels good knowing that the local farmers are using safe ways to farm and ensure the crops are properly taken care of. I like knowing that the people in my area are doing the best they can to support the local environment. I like supporting my local community farmers knowing how close they are grown and how they are ethically sourced! They were very happy to see 'young folk' coming to their stands and knowing that we also want to support their mission!-

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating Solutions Communicate With My Elected OfficialsWhat inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?
Alex Huber 4/17/2021 7:37 PMWhat inspires me most to act on sustainable energy is the fact that we only have one mother earth and we need to treat her the best way we can because there is only one mother earth. We need to try and keep the doomsday clock ticking because soon there will be no time to turn back before the damage is unstoppable and not reversible. Sustainable energy is very important to consider because it's much cleaner than fossil fuels and keeps the world going round a little longer! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating Solutions Express My Support For Walkable CitiesHow could better walking infrastructure make your city both more enjoyable and more equitable?
Alex Huber 4/15/2021 7:27 PMThere are so many shopping areas in my town that are within walking distance of each other, but walking areas just aren't there, so it makes people need to drive to them, when if there was a sidewalk or a better connecting area the extra driving wouldn't be needed. On a nice day outside, I'd love to walk from store to store versus needing to drive to each individual parking lot. It would be a lot easier for people to do so and would make even window shopping more possible! A nice walk on the little strip would be very enjoyable to do with friends, but not possible on unsafe roads with no walking area. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Alex Huber 4/15/2021 7:20 PMSpending more time outside and in my surrounding really makes me appreciate the smaller things around me. Beauty is everywhere in this world and taking time to look around, sit down, and just be in your local area really makes you appreciate it more. I love the area where I live, and really taking the time to stop, take a breathe, and walk around really makes me appreciate everything around me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating Solutions Give a MicroloanGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. Why do you think that is?
Alex Huber 4/10/2021 6:10 PMI've read in a few different places that women just have that motherly instinct- caring, nurturing, warm. I feel as if the way they use their money would also reflect this motherly instinct. They enjoy seeing others thrive by giving them the best possibility they can offer. By giving a microloan to a girl who wants to turn her home bakery into a real business, I feel like she can help her community come together with her delicious baked treats and amazing homemade lemonade!
