  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Climate Resilience Plant Trees
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

    Shweta Goyal's avatar
    Shweta Goyal 4/28/2021 3:32 AM
A temperate forest is a forest found between the tropical and boreal regions, located in the temperate zone. It is the second largest biome on the planet, covering 25% of the world's forest area, only behind the boreal forest, which covers about 33%.We can help protect and restore the temperate forest by purchasing paper and wood products that are FSC(Forest Stewardship Council) certified for your home and business. These are products that have come from sustainably managed forests, where trees are replanted and not clear cut.

Just being aware is not enough. Trees bring peace and calm when you see them. Its amazing to the big change in how my day goes by spending 10 minutes appreciating nautre, Tending a plant.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Climate Resilience Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Shweta Goyal's avatar
    Shweta Goyal 4/27/2021 11:09 AM
Biomass is plant or animal material used as fuel to produce electricity or heat. Examples are wood, energy crops and waste from forests, yards, or farms.
    Type of Biomass:
    • Biomass Feedstock
    • Dedicated Energy Crops
    • Agriculture Crop Residue
    • Forestry Residues
    • Algae
    • Wood Processing Residues
    • Wet Waste

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Climate Resilience Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Shweta Goyal's avatar
    Shweta Goyal 4/27/2021 10:57 AM
Silvopasture is the practice of integrating trees, forage, and the grazing of domesticated animals in a mutually beneficial way. It utilizes the principles of managed grazing, and it is one of several distinct forms of agroforestry.
By incorporating silvopasture with tree production, soil is protected from water and wind erosion, and the soil is enhanced with organic matter.

    • Silicone Food bags
    • Edible Water Bottles, Spoons, forks
    • Bamboo Toothbrush's
    • Storage bags that are made up of Starch
    • Cotton Produce Bags

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?

    Shweta Goyal's avatar
    Shweta Goyal 4/23/2021 3:10 AM
LEDs generally consume very low amounts of power. LED lighting retrofit projects result in a 60-75% improvement in the overall energy efficiency of the facility’s lighting. Depending on the existing lights and the particular LEDs installed, the savings could be more than 90%.The number one hazard when it comes to lighting is the emission of heat. LEDs emit almost no forward heat while traditional bulbs like incandescents convert more than 90% of the total energy used to power them directly into heat. That means only 10% of the energy powering incandescent lights is actually used for light.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Calculate My Carbon Footprint
What stood out to you most about your carbon footprint? What surprised you or sparked curiosity? Where can you take most immediate action?

    Shweta Goyal's avatar
    Shweta Goyal 4/22/2021 9:20 AM
I have started storing water in glass bottles versus plastic bottles or containers. Turned off lights in a room when not in use.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions Advocate For More Packaging Options
What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

nflatable air pillows are another great eco- and cost-saving alternative to Styrofoam or bubble wrap. Available in a variety of sizes, they are ideal for filling voids in boxes or providing cushioning around packed items.
They are small bags, which can be inflated, and therefore, when used as packaging, consist primarily of air. This cuts down on the amount of plastic used in their production and means they can be shipped with minimal packaging when compared to other cushioning materials.
What’s more, they can be reused, recycled, and are even biodegradable. Make sure to purchase air pillows made of 100 percent recycled materials and that emphasize their biodegradability.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions Spread the Word about Energy Alternatives
What inspiration and wisdom can you gather from your family, faith, or community traditions that would help you in both communicating about and addressing our most pressing energy issues?

    Shweta Goyal's avatar
    Shweta Goyal 4/22/2021 9:13 AM
Wind energy isn’t just reserved for electricity generation on a national scale, small local communities can also benefit from its installation. A single 2.5 MW wind turbine can generate enough electricity to power over 1,400 households annually!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions Support Local Food Systems
Dependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
