  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Climate Resilience Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Mel Cooper's avatar
    Mel Cooper 4/23/2021 9:05 AM
I have to admit I had no clue what Silvopasture was before. However, now I know that by planting trees through pasture land it has a benefit to the environment, the animals and the farmers. Animals are healthier and thrive through the summer due to shade of the trees and nutrient rich food grown under them.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Learn about Biochar
Can biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?

    Mel Cooper's avatar
    Mel Cooper 4/22/2021 8:22 AM
Biochar also contributes to the mitigation of climate change by enriching the soils and reducing the need for chemical fertilizers, which in turn lowers greenhouse gas emissions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Mel Cooper's avatar
    Mel Cooper 4/21/2021 9:00 AM
I have always used the best before date as a guide only and used judgement on whether something was still edible. I had however always taken the use by date more seriously. I had wrongly thought this was more of a safety date.

I've just googled this as I thought the same. Turns out Use by in the UK is for safety but in the US is for quality

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Mel Cooper's avatar
    Mel Cooper 4/21/2021 2:25 AM
In all the years I have lived in my home town, I had never explored and walked the whole way around my local reservoir. It was lovely to see the wildlife but could really have done with some litter bins.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Replace Manual Thermostats
How do you anticipate replacing your thermostats for smart ones will positively impact your life?

    Mel Cooper's avatar
    Mel Cooper 4/06/2021 5:40 AM
Replacing them with smart ones means I can control them from my phone. I can heat the house only when I need it and can see the temperature easily from my phone.
