Nature is actually a part of the brain's happiness. Being in nature is a natural way to calm one's mind and is also a great way to get exercise. There are also religions around nature as well as nature worship that contributes to spirituality
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

Educating others on geothermal energy would be the first big step. Once people know that it can cut their energy bill in half and it is sustainable renewable energy, I think many people would be open to trying it out.

I learned a few ways we can alter the cars that we are already using. We can make them more lightweight, design them better, and improving mechanical makeup to help make a car that uses combustion more efficient. I thought it was interesting that electric vehicles completely replace petroleum.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

Learning about how humans alter our environment in ways that are not sustainable is concerning. This makes me feel worried about our future, yet hopeful that people are being educated about this issue. It feels overwhelming that unsustainable practices can alter our future quality of life.

I had briefly learned about biomass as a source of energy. I learned that you can use the waste from mills and agriculture and that it is 100 percent clean energy!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Climate Resilience Support Businesses Owned by Women, BIPOC, or Immigrants
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. What have you done in the past to support women-owned businesses? How can you better support communities by supporting women?

    Kylie Cleary 4/21/2021 4:40 PM
In the past, I have supported the businesses of my friends who are women, such as at Aroma Cafe in Auburn. My friend owns a small coffee shop and i bought a few yummy things to try and a shirt. I can better support my community by supporting women through doing research behind what companies I am buying from and making sure I am supporting a company that has good values and supports women.
