  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Go Paperless
What do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?

    Alison Burrows's avatar
    Alison Burrows 4/30/2021 1:16 PM
I live in a tiny house and I've realized how much of a burden it is to just have a bunch of material stuff you don't really need. I've prioritized buying high quality items that will last years and also have multiple uses. Otherwise, I'm much more satisfied doing things rather than collecting things.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Alison Burrows's avatar
    Alison Burrows 4/30/2021 1:13 PM
We always hear about gas powered cars contributing to greenhouse gases, but I did not realize that refrigerants (especially in grocery stores) are significantly more of a problem! Why aren't we talking about this??
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn More about Regenerative Agriculture
Clean air, clean water and healthy food are just three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. What are some other reasons? How could/does regenerative agriculture positively impact you and your community?

    Alison Burrows's avatar
    Alison Burrows 4/30/2021 1:11 PM
Regenerative agriculture enhances biodiversity and restores nutrients and life into the soil.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Nutrient Management
How does environmental quality influence your sense of community?

    Alison Burrows's avatar
    Alison Burrows 4/30/2021 1:09 PM
If I find a campsite (for example) well maintained, I feel connected to the community that uses these shared spaces because people are considerate of others experience.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Plan to Insulate
What are some of the benefits of making your home more energy efficient?

    Alison Burrows's avatar
    Alison Burrows 4/30/2021 12:49 PM
The money I'll save on my electric bill will offset my investment and I'll save money in the long term!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Buildings Install A Toilet Tank Bank
How can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?

    Alison Burrows's avatar
    Alison Burrows 4/30/2021 9:35 AM
I didn't install a low flow toilet tank, but I did put a 1 liter bottle full of water in the toilet tank so my toilet flushes about 1 liter less water with each flush. It works and it's cheap!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Zero-waste Cooking
In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

    Alison Burrows's avatar
    Alison Burrows 4/30/2021 9:29 AM
I've stopped peeling my carrots and I now cut up the entire stalk of the broccoli! I also use the ends of the vegetables that I always thought looked weird, but now I just cook them with everything else.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Use Muscle Power
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

    Alison Burrows's avatar
    Alison Burrows 4/30/2021 9:16 AM
It's a much slower form of travel so I take more notice of the houses and landscapes that I drive on a daily basis.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Alison Burrows's avatar
    Alison Burrows 4/29/2021 10:29 AM
I HATE wasting food, but the "use by" date always turned me off, even if the food didn't show signs of being bad yet - I would usually throw it out "just to be safe." But now I know that it's really just when the food is at it's peak freshness so now I know I can eat the food guilt free!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Alison Burrows's avatar
    Alison Burrows 4/28/2021 8:17 AM
I envision sustainable communities investing in multiple sources of green energy feeding into a microgrid that powers a small community rather than large one centralized energy system.
