REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Research the Climate Impact of RefrigerantsWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
Patricia Bogdan 4/29/2021 3:49 PMRefrigerant Emissions: why you should be worried about your air conditioning unit — Litefoot
This article breaks it down in a really easy way! -
Patricia Bogdan 4/29/2021 3:45 PMI repurposed nice takeout containers for meal prep containers this week! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Support a Community GardenWhat are the multiple benefits of community gardens, including carbon sequestration? Why do these benefits matter to you?
Patricia Bogdan 4/29/2021 3:44 PMI donated to an elementary school's community garden! It's important that we instill values of harvesting local from an early age. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Support Businesses Owned by Women, BIPOC, or ImmigrantsGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. What have you done in the past to support women-owned businesses? How can you better support communities by supporting women?
Patricia Bogdan 4/28/2021 7:02 PMI recently commissioned an art piece from a female artist - she's a friend of mine and what I love most about her work is that she helps other women heal through art therapy. This piece will represent supporting her, and all the work that she does! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Patricia Bogdan 4/28/2021 6:46 PMI regularly use coffee cups, especially when I buy cold coffees. In the wake of the pandemic and the inability to bring your own reusable cups, I've mitigated my impact by having my own cold brew system at home. Saves me time, money, and reduces the number of cups I use on a weekly basis! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Advocate For More Packaging OptionsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Patricia Bogdan 4/28/2021 6:39 PMI think what's most concerning is the way we ship and package things, now that most people have shifted to shopping online. A simple way I've addressed this in my daily routine is making sure all my Amazon orders come in one package during checkout, as opposed to choosing different ship dates and receiving multiple boxes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Choose Recycled PaperGood job on choosing recycled paper! How can you take your action a step further?
Patricia Bogdan 4/28/2021 5:57 PMI saw this challenge, and was planning on getting one of my friends a notebook for her birthday, so decided to research one that was made with recycled paper. They're surprisingly easy to find, and I supported a local business while I was at it! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Advocate for Solar InstallationHow does advocating for rooftop solar connect to your values? How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?
Patricia Bogdan 4/28/2021 5:56 PMI encouraged my parents to explore the option of a solar panel, or a solar powered outdoor/indoor tech for their new home! They have contacted someone and are looking into the feasability! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Improve a Bus StopHow can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?
Patricia Bogdan 4/28/2021 5:41 PMSometimes, all this really means is to give someone a "nudge". I regularly encourage my friends and I to take the subway over uber's, or to use the Amtrak to explore nearby states when we feel like we need a "getaway". While I may not have the power to change infrastructure, I do have the power to influence those around me! -
Patricia Bogdan 4/27/2021 11:57 AMI created my own action of going through all my non-perishables, organizing them, and taking the remaining items to a local food bank. We often rack up a ton of cans of things that have accumulated over time, but we rarely reach for the items. In an effort to clear all of this out, and avoid them going to waste, I took them to a local food bank!
