REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating Solutions Advocate For More Packaging OptionsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Fabiola Amador 4/20/2021 7:22 AMEvery single time I use delivery food services the apps have options to let you know which restaurants have a sustainable package, I try to order more from those type of restaurants and also applications and gov institutions are pushing towards that change to be done. -
Fabiola Amador 4/19/2021 1:36 PMGreat article about redlining and the effects on the environment
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/past-racist-redlining-practices-increased-climate-burden-on-minority-neighborhoods/ -
Fabiola Amador 4/19/2021 10:33 AMThis past weekend I took another step on supporting food delivery services that have eco friendly options. There are also some campaigns online to have businesses switch from non-reusable plastics to some compostable options. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Find a Local Climate-Friendly SupermarketHow close is the nearest climate-friendly supermarket to your home? How could you encourage local supermarket to reduce or phase out their use of HFC refrigerants?
Fabiola Amador 4/19/2021 10:30 AMThere are very few options still in Mexico City but I have found some small businesses that offers good options, since they are small supermarkets they don't have HFC refrigerants. It would be nice to see supermarkets in Mexico take a better approach to this. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Learn about the Legacy of RedliningHow does city planning and design relate to equity and climate change?
Fabiola Amador 4/19/2021 10:27 AMImmensely it not only affect the economy of the families but due to poor planning and investment these become hot points within the city, the highest temperatures are registered in previously redlined communities and this affects people's health since they don't have access to AC during this time of the year or they might get hit with higher electrical bills which they might not be able to afford. Racist policies from the past are still having an effect on today's world. Conscious planning needs to go into effect regardless of race or income, every human being deserves to live in a good place and have healthy air to breathe as well as green options around them that provide a better life quality. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Buy BambooAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
Fabiola Amador 4/19/2021 10:12 AMThere are more and more bamboo alternatives on the market now I was able to find several items on the regular supermarket and also online, I will be trying these out when needed. -
Fabiola Amador 4/08/2021 2:13 PMI found the methane digesters information so interesting, I had no idea farms could generate that much energy! -
Fabiola Amador 4/08/2021 1:08 PMSo far this has been very educational, it has definitely opened my eyes and in my daily activities I am beginning to look for ways in which I can do something aside from the actions already delimited in my dashboard -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Replace Manual ThermostatsHow do you anticipate replacing your thermostats for smart ones will positively impact your life?
Fabiola Amador 4/08/2021 11:31 AMI do not have thermostats in my house since I live in Mexico City and AC or heating is not something we usually have, we have portable fans and heaters which are commonly used in Spring and Winter to warm or cool the house. For this spring instead of automatically switching on the fan I'm instead opening the windows in my house, this keeps the house cool with no need to turn on the fan. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Learn about 'Green Gentrification'Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?
Fabiola Amador 4/08/2021 11:27 AMThis is one subject I'm thorn about, whilst I don't deny the benefits of having more green areas in metropolitan spaces I find it conflicting that this leads to gentrification, I feel every single person should have access to green spaces regardless of their economic status and areas where green development projects take place should not be gentrified because of this. Cost of living should not rise just because you have access to a park.
