Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Document single use plastic for 1 weeks
What is your reaction to your plastic usage?

    Chloe Alliod's avatar
    Chloe Alliod 4/29/2021 9:06 AM
I think my plastic usage depends on how often I have to go out during a week and where to. The more I'm out, the more likely I am to get food and drink on the road and use more plastic. If I'm home more often, I use less plastic.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Explore My Area
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

    Chloe Alliod's avatar
    Chloe Alliod 4/25/2021 12:05 PM
Spending time outdoors brings about a greater appreciation for nature and all the beautiful places the Earth has to offer.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Use Muscle Power
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

    Chloe Alliod's avatar
    Chloe Alliod 4/25/2021 12:04 PM
While driving gets me places quicker, biking to the grocery store when I only need a couple things instead of taking the car makes me feel better about having to go out because I'm not polluting at all.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Find a Local Climate-Friendly Supermarket
How close is the nearest climate-friendly supermarket to your home? How could you encourage local supermarket to reduce or phase out their use of HFC refrigerants?

    Chloe Alliod's avatar
    Chloe Alliod 4/23/2021 7:56 AM
The nearest climate-friendly supermarket is about 20 minutes from my home. I think the best way to encourage other supermarkets to reduce or phase out their use of HFC refrigerants is to educate them on the harmful effects of HFC. The more you know is better.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Chloe Alliod's avatar
    Chloe Alliod 4/21/2021 8:52 AM
I just enjoyed getting out of the house and getting some exercise. Especially on sunny, warm days. I live in a pretty quite neighborhood with dirt roads so it already is pretty quite.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Smart Seafood Choices
Many states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?

    Chloe Alliod's avatar
    Chloe Alliod 4/20/2021 7:54 AM
The recommendations for Rhode Island fall mostly in the "buy but be aware" category. The seafood I eat in Rhode Island I either catch myself or get fresh from the boats in Point Judith. I'm not sure if that makes a difference to the guidelines.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Conduct Virtual Meetings
How can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?

    Chloe Alliod's avatar
    Chloe Alliod 4/19/2021 8:11 AM
I didn't work for virtual meetings for my company, but I have urged my friends and peers to meet in our study groups virtually instead of all meeting somewhere else.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Calculate My Carbon Footprint
What stood out to you most about your carbon footprint? What surprised you or sparked curiosity? Where can you take most immediate action?

    Chloe Alliod's avatar
    Chloe Alliod 4/17/2021 7:48 AM
If I calculated my footprint right using the CoolClimate Calculator, I emit 40 tons of CO2 eq/year which is 31% better than the average. I think I'm honestly surprised at how high that is. It amazes me how much just one person can emit on their own. I can take the most immediate action in my energy consumption.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?

    Chloe Alliod's avatar
    Chloe Alliod 4/17/2021 7:39 AM
The next step for me is trying to switch over all the lightbulbs in the house to LEDs which are more energy efficient. Another step is to use the wood stove more, so the furnace does not have to run as often for heat.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Composting
Producing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?

    Chloe Alliod's avatar
    Chloe Alliod 4/14/2021 6:30 PM
The waste of water and energy are the two that motivates me to change my behavior the most. In my opinion, they relate to climate change the most and that is urging me to make a change.
