REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating Solutions Contact your Elected OfficialsDo you have any personal connections to a farm or farmland? If so, what are they? What feelings are evoked for you when thinking about declining farmland?
Kathy Allen 4/29/2021 7:30 PMMy grandparents owned a farm and surrounding woodlands. It was one of my favorite places to be as a kid. Over time, they did less and less farming and eventually just rented out some pastures. My uncle still lives on the land, much of which has been restored to prairie. I worry that the “old” ways of smaller family farmers who truly cared for their land are being lost as industrialized agriculture takes over. -
Kathy Allen 4/26/2021 6:02 PMUPDATE: the food co-op downtown does NOT have climate-friendly refrigerants either. ☹️ -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Plan to InsulateWhat are some of the benefits of making your home more energy efficient?
Kathy Allen 4/26/2021 5:59 PMThis is an easy question - obviously you’ll save money on your energy bills and your home will likely be more comfortable. I make changes to reduce my carbon footprint, so I feel like I’m contributing less to environmental damage. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Find a Local Climate-Friendly SupermarketHow close is the nearest climate-friendly supermarket to your home? How could you encourage local supermarket to reduce or phase out their use of HFC refrigerants?
Kathy Allen 4/05/2021 11:09 AMThe closest climate-friendly supermarkets to La Crosse on the map are Aldi's in Stoughton and Chippewa Falls (so not close at all). But I noticed this data is citizen-submitted, and you can check stores near you and submit them to be added to the map. I checked Woodman's in Onalaska today and it does NOT use climate-friendly refrigerants. :(
I never go to Aldi's, but maybe I'll have to check there, or the Co-op downtown.
