  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Climate Resilience Learn about 'Green Gentrification'
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

    Tai Afrae's avatar
    Tai Afrae 4/23/2021 1:55 PM
It was extremely interesting to learn about green gentrification since it was not something that I had heard about previously. I would honestly need to do more research to find out how my city can make its climate action plans equitable and socially just (especially since I feel like a lot of what they have done has been anything but equitable/socially just).
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

    Tai Afrae's avatar
    Tai Afrae 4/21/2021 4:00 PM
There are so many ways to express your personality/creativity/values that does not include buying more clothes/accessories or fast fashion! A big way is to re-purpose the clothes you do have. I love turning an only pair of pants into cute new shorts or a dress that's too small into a nice skirt! These are great ways to revamp your wardrobe without buying new items!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Explore My Area
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

    Tai Afrae's avatar
    Tai Afrae 4/09/2021 2:59 PM
Spending more time outdoors can really connect you with the place you live. When you connect with the land you tend to feel more like you belong in the place you are at.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions Research and Advocate for High-Speed Rail
What are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?

    Tai Afrae's avatar
    Tai Afrae 4/09/2021 2:57 PM
As someone who does not drive, I am a huge advocate for better forms of public transportation! I am always looking for ways to get to where I need to be in a timely and safe manner and HSRs would definitely be a great way to do that on an even larger scale.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Stay on the Ground
What was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?

    Tai Afrae's avatar
    Tai Afrae 4/08/2021 8:53 PM
It was extremely easy to restructure my trip! Instead of going somewhere far, we just drove a couple hours and settled in a secluded place! Road-trips are a great way to avoid air travel while still having an adventurous experience.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Use Public Transit
How has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?

    Tai Afrae's avatar
    Tai Afrae 4/06/2021 9:48 AM
Growing up in The Bay Area, there is so much access to public transportation. There are so many people who do not even feel the need to drive because of it so the use of it is super normalized for me. It was different when I came here since the public transportation is so limited here and not really used by a lot of my peers.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Composting
Producing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?

    Tai Afrae's avatar
    Tai Afrae 4/06/2021 9:46 AM
All of these kinds of wastes motivate me to change my behavior regarding food, but wasting water, energy, and hours of labor motivate me the most because of how valuable these things are!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. How would you rather use this money?

    Tai Afrae's avatar
    Tai Afrae 4/06/2021 9:43 AM
It is wild to think of all that money being spent on wasted food!! I would much rather use that money to pay bills, support local small businesses, or even just save for future rainy days.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Support Businesses Owned by Women, BIPOC, or Immigrants
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. What have you done in the past to support women-owned businesses? How can you better support communities by supporting women?

    Tai Afrae's avatar
    Tai Afrae 4/03/2021 12:29 PM
I loved learning about the woman-owned businesses in my area! There are so many amazing businesses that do good work out here and it was really nice just learning about what they are doing in our community specifically!!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Plan to Insulate
What are some of the benefits of making your home more energy efficient?

    Tai Afrae's avatar
    Tai Afrae 4/01/2021 3:30 PM
This winter really made me realize how much energy I was using in my house with the heaters/fireplace and when we got my windows upgraded we learned that it was because we did not have insulation on one side of the house. Now that we have fixed this problem it feels so much better in the house and my heater/fireplace use has gone down significantly.
