The nearest supermarket to me that doesn't use HFC refrigerants is hours and counties away.

How do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?

I address my own climate grief by focusing on the positive side of the situation, identifying hopes and goals in my own life to make a difference.

Yay we did it! I'm excited to see what an impact CSU made together.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

Ways that I can express myself without fast fashion? I certainly rely on communication and not judging a book by it's cover (or a person for their clothes). I think that the way a person holds themselves even without speaking is often the best tell of who they are - not their clothes.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Go Paperless
What do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?

    Anna Beissert 4/29/2021 10:32 PM
In my own life, what I want to prioritize over material items is experience and health. I want to be able to break away and live in the moment and stop and smell the roses. It is so easy to get hung up on the material when in reality it doesn't matter. That is part of the reason I love living in Humboldt county - it's all about utility and comfort and quality over quantity.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Research Cement Alternatives
Concrete is a good example of a material that most of us encounter every day, but its carbon footprint may not be obvious. What other everyday materials might have a large carbon footprint? How can you find out more?

There are many every day materials that have a larger carbon footprint than we may imagine, but what mostly comes to mind is that of food. Of course there are some things that we consume that have much better carbon footprints than others, but it is something that we don't think about very much.

I hope that everybody has enjoyed this challenge as much as I have! Today I went to the river for the first time this year and I feel so renewed from my time outside, it was a great reminder of why we make the choices that we do.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Choose Recycled Paper
Good job on choosing recycled paper! How can you take your action a step further?

    Anna Beissert 4/29/2021 8:12 PM
Going one step further than using recycled paper is to not use paper in the first place!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Share Bioplastic Disposal Tips
What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

What concerns me most about how we are affecting the planet is the lack of progress we've seen since the problem was discovered/identified. Due to our socio-economic system, there are minimal incentives to make better choices and many people are blocked from the knowledge or ability to do so.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Learn about 'Green Gentrification'
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

when thinking about adding green spaces - are we looking at rent control around the area? are we considering public transportation, walkability, or bicycle paths to these green spaces? these issues are more complex - more community members need to be involved and represented at the "table" when having these discussions or making decisions. the process may take longer, but it is crucial to not leave out perspectives/experiences of others.
