  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

It baffles me that many things that I eat have some negative impact. There seems to be little choices that don't have some type of carbon footprint. In the future, I will be more mindful when purchasing food items by doing research beforehand.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

I feel overwhelmed at the fact that every year, scientists tell us it will be too late and I hear lots of negative news coverage (wildfires, burning of the forests, coral reef depletion). It makes me hopeful that more people are starting to care, and when I see news coverage that isn't always negative (new solutions to sustainability, this Earth Month challenge and how there are so many solutions).
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Sayoko Kozuma 4/30/2021 8:52 PM
I know that many products in my daily life uses palm oil. I will be mindful when I purchase products to avoid this product, as well as advocate for others to be mindful as well.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Calculate My Carbon Footprint
What stood out to you most about your carbon footprint? What surprised you or sparked curiosity? Where can you take most immediate action?

I was surprised at how big my carbon footprint was. I try to be mindful, but I can definitely try to reduce the amount of energy I use in the house when I am not using them (unplugging unused electronics, etc.).
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Nutrient Management
How does environmental quality influence your sense of community?

    Sayoko Kozuma's avatar
    Sayoko Kozuma 4/30/2021 8:48 PM
It shows that the community cares about sustainability, which means that we all share the same concern. This helps me believe that we are all in this together.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Improve a Bus Stop
How can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?

    Sayoko Kozuma's avatar
    Sayoko Kozuma 4/30/2021 8:46 PM
I think it is important to look at other countries that have successfully integrated transportation systems that are meeting human needs and try to model a system in our respective countries.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Support Companies Leading in Green Energy
Every dollar you put into solar or wind is a dollar not put into traditional financial institutions. You'll also be bolstering the fossil fuel divestment movement, too. Name some companies you know that invest in green energy. How can you support them?

    Sayoko Kozuma's avatar
    Sayoko Kozuma 4/30/2021 8:45 PM
Many large companies are investing in green energy, promising to use 100% renewable energy in the next coming years. I can support businesses that invest in clean energy by purchasing from them first before buying from companies that do not promise to deliver goods from clean energy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Building With Carbon Storing Waste Products
How feasible do you think it is for society to build with agricultural waste products?

    Sayoko Kozuma's avatar
    Sayoko Kozuma 4/30/2021 8:41 PM
I do not think it is feasible. This is only because after all of these activities and learning about these amazing, efficient, and sustainable options, we are still not implementing them. We've had solutions for years but regulations (society) is halting the progress.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn More about Regenerative Agriculture
Clean air, clean water and healthy food are just three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. What are some other reasons? How could/does regenerative agriculture positively impact you and your community?

    Sayoko Kozuma's avatar
    Sayoko Kozuma 4/30/2021 8:39 PM
There are so many other reasons to care about regenerative agriculture, such as long-term sustainability for farmers and the community as a whole and great long-term investment in the community's economy as the clean air and water would reduce health issues.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Sayoko Kozuma's avatar
    Sayoko Kozuma 4/30/2021 8:36 PM
I could invest my time into researching and learning more about geothermal energy, and discussing with people I come into contact with to spread the word about how public investment could expand its usage.
