Thank you for raising awareness of women's and gender equality issues. What is the next step to actually address this disparity?

We watched the mini-series 'Explained',  episode 'Why Women Are Paid Less' with American politician Hillary Clinton and international lawyer Anne-Marie Slaughter. According to them, getting a lower wage than a male colleague is not because of being a woman, but because of being a mother. A shame, because one of women's rights is equal pay. The next step is to be vocal and stand up for what is correct.

How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

I LOVED the Sustainable Fashion workshop with Kathy Kearns. I especially loved this concept:

    SHOP YOUR CLOSET
Try to refrain from spontaneously buying things you don’t need. Evaluate what you have in your current wardrobe and outline what items are truly essential to buy new. Consider styling your clothes differently to get a different look.

How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

Instead of expiration dates deciding when food is bad I am going to utilize these steps:
I will check my food for these surefire signs of spoilage:
    It smells “off.”
    It is moldy
It has a different texture than you would expect.
    It has an unpleasant taste.

Refuse: Our lives are full of stuff we don't need, and each thing has an environmental cost.

Be thoughtful when buying, use the power of your dollar to tell companies what you want and don't want.

Just deciding not to spend $100 on stuff can save 100kg of greenhouse gas pollution!

The five R's! REDUCE! To cut down on the use of paper, I always print double sided or I reuse single sided paper for notes.

What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Carrie Wykoff's avatar
    Carrie Wykoff 4/10/2021 4:50 AM
My vision for a sustainable community is a place where the needs of everyone in the community are met and people feel safe, healthy and ultimately happy. The environment is appreciated, protected and enhanced and damage to the environment is minimized
