REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and EducationThank you for raising awareness of women's and gender equality issues. What is the next step to actually address this disparity?
Carrie Wykoff 4/30/2021 8:52 AMWe watched the mini-series 'Explained', episode 'Why Women Are Paid Less' with American politician Hillary Clinton and international lawyer Anne-Marie Slaughter. According to them, getting a lower wage than a male colleague is not because of being a woman, but because of being a mother. A shame, because one of women's rights is equal pay. The next step is to be vocal and stand up for what is correct. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Carrie Wykoff 4/29/2021 12:57 PMPresident Biden has a goal of half a million EV charging stations around the country. -
Carrie Wykoff 4/29/2021 12:51 PMGreat article featuring the new Secretary of transportation, Pete Buttigieg:

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Carrie Wykoff 4/29/2021 12:46 PMI LOVED the Sustainable Fashion workshop with Kathy Kearns. I especially loved this concept:
SHOP YOUR CLOSETTry to refrain from spontaneously buying things you don’t need. Evaluate what you have in your current wardrobe and outline what items are truly essential to buy new. Consider styling your clothes differently to get a different look.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Carrie Wykoff 4/29/2021 12:33 PMInstead of expiration dates deciding when food is bad I am going to utilize these steps:
I will check my food for these surefire signs of spoilage:
It smells “off.”
It is moldy
It has a different texture than you would expect.
It has an unpleasant taste. -
Carrie Wykoff 4/12/2021 7:32 AMRefuse: Our lives are full of stuff we don't need, and each thing has an environmental cost.
Be thoughtful when buying, use the power of your dollar to tell companies what you want and don't want.
Just deciding not to spend $100 on stuff can save 100kg of greenhouse gas pollution!

Check out this cool video from the St. Louis Zoo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBdb9ZMbdAY
Today I bought a pair of jeans made from recycled water bottles :) That is a Reuse and a Recycle. -
Carrie Wykoff 4/11/2021 4:55 AMThe five R's! REDUCE! To cut down on the use of paper, I always print double sided or I reuse single sided paper for notes. -
Carrie Wykoff 4/10/2021 4:51 AMHeading to the transfer station - the R today = Recycling! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
