Action Track: Accelerating Solutions
Conduct Virtual Meetings
Telepresence
I will encourage my office to hold meetings virtually whenever possible instead of requiring travel.
Buildings
Replace Manual Thermostats
Smart Thermostats
I will replace manual thermostats with smart ones.
Buildings
Install a Low-Flow Showerhead
Low-Flow Fixtures
I will save up to 15 gallons (56 L) of water a day or 450 gallons (1,680 L) a month by installing a low-flow showerhead.
Buildings
Research Heat Pumps
High-Efficiency Heat Pumps
I will spend at least 40 minutes researching heat pumps to see if installing one makes sense for my home/building.
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions
Support Local Food Systems
Plant-Rich Diets
I will source 25 percent of my food from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Land Sinks
Forest-Friendly Foods 2
Tropical Forest Restoration
I will replace or remove from my current diet the palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products that are known to contribute to deforestation.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Valerie Vickers 4/29/2021 12:28 PMFor me, I find changing my diet to be more local and centered on what I grow to be fun and more healthy. -
Valerie Vickers 4/29/2021 12:27 PMSo glad to be a part of this experience for Earth Month. Our vegetable garden is growing well, and we are planning to change our grass yard into a native pollinator garden within the next month. We have 2 bluebird houses and are glad to have no electricity bill as we have solar panels now. We can still lower our footprint and will keep trying. -
Valerie Vickers 4/26/2021 12:45 PMSo far this month our solar panels have produced 681.1 kWh of electricity and we have consumed 0 so all seems exported that is equivalent to saving 12 trees or running a refrigerator for 5 months. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating SolutionsHow can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?
Valerie Vickers 4/22/2021 11:26 AMBy including the natural world and values that conserve as part of each meeting-

-
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating SolutionsDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
Valerie Vickers 4/16/2021 3:19 PMWe have a wonderful Farmer's Market here and are partaking of that as well as learning more about local farms. I belong to 3 food coops. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildingsWhat would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?
Valerie Vickers 4/16/2021 3:17 PMWe are just learning about water sources and usage in our new community. I hope that we can get involved with stream testing as we have a stream next to us. Then, we need to look at the bigger picture. -
Valerie Vickers 4/16/2021 3:15 PMThere are so many different things we are doing for the Earth in our new home and hopefully folks notice our raised bed gardens and our native landscaping. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildingsHow do you anticipate replacing your thermostats for smart ones will positively impact your life?
Valerie Vickers 4/16/2021 3:14 PMWe have done this in conjunction with getting solar panels. The Smart Thermostat keeps temperature better regulated so that we are not wasting energy by doing daily changes.
