REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Research Barriers to Participation and RepresentationWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?
Katelijne van Drongelen 4/19/2021 10:49 AMThis actually came out of a news article I read prompting me to better understand the effect of incarceration on women and families in the United States. Because incarceration rates still unfairly and disproportionately show that minorities are getting arrested I wondered how this would affect women's ability to be part of the workforce and how often their voices are included in conversations around the hidden costs of racism. The fact that women hold together a family structure is often an impediment to fully realizing career growth potential and a barrier to opportunity in the first place. -

Katelijne van Drongelen 4/06/2021 6:03 AMIts been a great experience to dedicate myself to daily walks. With the coronavirus pandemic we are all inclined to stay home more. But walking outdoors has never been more needed both for physical and mental health. As a result I have been able to explore nature within a couple hours of my house rather than travel nationally for vacations as I used to do. Its amazing what we miss close to home! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Katelijne van Drongelen 4/06/2021 6:01 AMThe earlier in the morning I take my walks, the less cars there are on the road - making the walk much more enjoyable. Even with folks working from home due to the Pandemic I still notice a lot of traffic. I wonder if people are less inclined to use ride-sharing due to the Corona virus, or if they are hesitant to carpool?
