REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityIdentify some ways in which modern human societies have become unsustainable. What kind of roles do individuals have in creating and changing practices in society?
Benjamin Steenblik 4/14/2021 8:06 AMWe drove through Craig Colorado yesterday, and discussed how we should be transfering from Coal, there is a plant there that is going to be decomissioned soon. Renewable energy like wind and solar, can create safe, high paying jobs. The cultural transition starts with a conversation.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered SinksMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Benjamin Steenblik 4/14/2021 8:05 AMI try to only eat trout that I catch in my local reservoir. I do not have coastal access, but I do buy sustainably harvested and produced seafood at my grocery. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityWhat is the most exciting solution you explored? Why is it exciting to you?
Benjamin Steenblik 4/14/2021 8:02 AMHemp and Project Draw Down's 100, math based, peer reviewed solutions. Forestation, high speed rail, and marine permaculture all all really exciting to me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Benjamin Steenblik 4/14/2021 7:57 AMMan...that's a big one. Sustainable community would incorporate equity, science, and inclusiveness to promote a holistic relationship with the world around us. We need to awaken our collective consciousness and take action to break with systems that damage us, and our planet. Nature's system was already perfect, and we need to honor it by returning to a more sustainable approach to everything we do. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityHow does advocating for rooftop solar connect to your values? How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?
Benjamin Steenblik 4/14/2021 7:53 AMIt connects to my values because everything starts with a conversation. The more I know about dispelling myths and misinformation about solar, and the more educated I am about actual costs and ROI, the more people I can get interested in renewables. We all have to do our part to advocate for the change we want to see. As a challenger, I want to break the status quo.

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered SinksCan biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?
Benjamin Steenblik 4/14/2021 7:51 AMI had no idea biochar was so important for soil communities and carbon sequestration.
